Second Floor Common Room; Thursday Afternoon [01/19].

Apparently, Maya was feeling terribly restless that afternoon, bouncing all over the room like a wildcat, which, while very adorable, made it difficult for Sakaki to focus on her studies. So she decided a little trip over to the common room, where he'd have a little more room to run around and play might be in order, and she could grab a bite to eat for herself while she was there, too.

And so now there was a tiny little Iriomote cat bouncing happily around the common room, hiding behind the furniture and adorably pouncing at Sakaki as she tried not to absolutely die from the cuteness overload while nibbbling on some leftover pizza.

Studying could definitely wait, especially once Maya started climbing up on the couches and chairs to add even more dynamic excitement to all his bouncing.

"Oh my gosh, your cat is adorable!" Charlie said, bouncing almost as much as the cat!

Maya seemed to jump a little at the sound of Charlie's voice, turning toward her with a warning meow before standing in a defensive stance in front of Sakaki.

Who needed a moment to recover, even if she was used to him being so adorably protective of her.

"Thank you," she finally managed. "His name is Maya."

Maya meowed again, as if to confirm this fact.

"Maya," Charlie said, as if sounding out the word carefully. "That's a great name. And clearly he's very protective of you, which is awesome! Hey, Maya. I swear I won't hurt your person. Promise."

"It's from Yamamayaa, which is the name of his species in the language of islands where he's from," Sakaki offered, looking down at the cat for a moment with a soft, faintly proud smile; Maya still seemed to regard Charlie with skepticism, but, since Charlie wasn't another cat, he had a feeling that he shouldn't have to worry, and backed up a little, until he could nudge against Sakaki's ankle and start purring.

Sakaki's cheeks immediately started to burn red with happiness.

"He actually followed me all the way from Okinawa to Tokyo," she added. "I'm just glad he found me before I returned here, or else he might have tried to follow me all the way here, too."

And, unable to handle it anymore, Sakaki swooped down to pick Maya up and hold him close, an arrangement he happily bounced right into.

"Wow, that's amazing!" Charlie smiled at the little guy. "Imagine if he'd followed you all the way here, that would have been something! Glad you realized it before it got to that!"

Charlie, as always, had her guitar slung on her back. "Does he like music? I could play for him."
