Meanwhile, in the second floor common room ...

Yawning, Jubilee shuffles into the common room holding a bag of popcorn and a gigantic bottle of root beer like a pair of beloved teddy bears. Her hair is sticking up funny, and she's wearing a pair of flannel PJs with rubber chickens on them and purple bunny slippers.

She rubs sleepily at her eyes, even though her inability to go to bed is what's led to her being here, and flops down on one of the couches. She sprawls out on the couch, grabbing the remote for the TV. Stuffing a handful of popcorn into her mouth, she flips on the TV, only to turn it on in the middle of a nature special on elephants ... currently, their mating habits.

"... EW."

EDIT: And now we're watching Press Your Luck. Yay for bad '70s game shows!

Veronica looks at Charlie closely. She doesn't think he's from Neptune.

"Thanks," she says cautiously. "What school did you go to before this one?"

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Kawalsky had to think quickly. "Cheyenne Mountain," he said. It was close enough to the truth. "It's in Colorado, just outside Colorado Springs. Before that, I went to school in New York. That's where I knew Veronica. The other Veronica. So what brings you here? We've got all these kids from all around. Guess I'm a little curious why everyone ended up here."

Veronica breathes a sigh of relief.

"I'm from Neptune, California," she says. She thinks for a moment about how to answer his other question.

"And I'm here, because, well, Reader's Digest version is that some really bad stuff went down in my town and my dad thought it would be best for me to get away for my senior year."

She smiles and tilts her head slightly.

"How'd you end up here, Charlie?"

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Sucks that there was something to drive you away from home. Good of your Dad to get you somewhere safe though, although 'safe' is kinda relative here, huh? As for me.. no clue. One minute I was in Colorado, the next thing I know it's eight a couple of years later and I'm standing outside the gates with a bag and a note from some guy I don't know telling me to go to school. I've thought about trying to work it out, but I figure it's easier to go along with it for now."

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Veronica chuckles. "This place is probably not exactly what my dad had in mind when he decided to send me away. Especially since my psychotic jackass of an ex is here, too."

She shakes her hand, not wanting to think about Logan or Lilly or Thursday night.

"So you don't know how you got here? That's... interesting. If you ever want to investigate, let me know."

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I will," Kawalsky replies, figuring from rumor that she's one of those types that likes to solve the crime. There's a couple around, although none with the appropriate security clearance to get to the bottom of his problem. "Your ex is here? That's gotta suck. If he ever causes you any trouble, lemme know, okay?"

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Wallace is right, Veronica thinks, I am a marshmellow.

"That's very sweet, Charlie. So, I take it you live here in the dorms. What room are you in?"

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
"The 239/240 suite down the hall with...well, the way it's going, we're gonna have half the student body in there. How 'bout you?"

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm in 228 - so I guess we're neighbors. I share with Chloe Sullivan, do you know her?"

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Chloe...name's familiar. Think I mighta saw her in one of my classes. The one with Professor Amidala maybe. So you're right down the hall. Cool. If you're ever bored, come on down. There's always someone causing trouble down our end."

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not sure what classes she's in. Only one we have together is Combat Journalism."

She thinks for a minute.

"Are you near John, Cameron, & Lee?"

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Thinks about the layout of the floor. "John - I'm assuming you mean Crichton - is next door. Cam's down the hall closer to you. Not sure where Adama is, but I know he's on this floor. Cam might as well be living next door. He's always there anyway. Crichton keeps stealing his pillows, even though I bought him a perfectly good Care Bears pillow the other day."

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I meant Crichton. Those guys are nuts."

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Kawalsky grins. "Yeah, that describes 'em pretty well. They know how to make this place entertaining, that's for sure."

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Can't argue with that."

Veronica decides she doesn't really want to talk about other people anymore.

"Tell me more about you, Charlie. What do you like to do when you're not watching bad 70s game shows?"

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"I like hockey," Charlie says. "Haven't played in a while, but still love the game. Other than that, pretty much the usual. Celine Dion music, movies, people, food. Don't mind reading, but it's not my favorite thing to do. I'm a restless kind of guy. Like to keep active, explore, find new stuff and meet new people. What about you?"

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I like helping people," she says. "I worked for my dad's PI firm and I ended up picking up a lot of my own cases from my classmates. I also like 80s music, boys that are so bad for me, the beach, and playing with my dog, who I miss very much.

[identity profile] kawalsky.livejournal.com 2005-09-18 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Thought you might be one of those mystery-solver types. When you offered to help me out. Do we have a beach around here? I haven't been into town yet aside to help crash the girls' slumber party, so I haven't looked around."
