"And Mitchell picks up the ball, he dodges, moves forward and shoots... the crowd holds in their breath and he SCORES! Mitchell wins!" Cameron caught the ball back and started shooting hoops on his own as he tried to figure out what Lee and him had to do with Hercules and a centaur.

"Frell," Beka swore softly when she exited the locker room and saw Cam. Maybe I should just go.

No. She'd come to work off her tension. And this was the main source of it.

She edged her way over to the mats, and settled in to stretch. If he caught her eye, she'd say something. If not, she'd pretend he wasn't there.

Cameron ran up to the goal post, jumping at the last moment and slamming the ball into the net. He grinned and turned to catch the ball again when he realised he wasn't alone in the gym anymore.

He caught the ball up again and bounced it on the ground once. He could pretend he hadn't seen her, but she probably knew he was there and if she hadn't left by now, then maybe she did want to talk. Straightening up his back, he turned and carefully approached her, the ball tucked in under one of his arms. "Hey."

Beka's chest tightened when she heard his voice. But if he was talking, maybe he'd stopped hating. She pulled her knees up to her chest, to protect against the pain. Then looked up. "Hey."

"It's er..." he swallowed and looked down at his trainers, not sure what the hell he was supposed to say. "It's good that you're back."

Beka laughed, brittle. "You really are that nice. Aren't you?" Because he sure as hell couldn't mean it.

"We should talk." She ran a hand through her hair. "I don't know where to start."
