"Probably," Cameron shrugged and bounced the ball at her. "Play with me?"

"I don't really know how. Playing. Not so much a thing we have time for in my world." But, it's an opening. "The object is to get the ball through the hoop?"

"Yes, but you can't run with the ball. You have to dribble it. It's a bit more complicated, but that should do for a one on one."

Standing, she bounces the ball at her feet a couple of times. "This is dribbling, yes?" Tentatively she walks a few steps, still bouncing the ball. Then tries running a bit. "OK. I won't be much of an opponent. But, let's go."

"You'll get the hang of it soon enough," Cam said as he took up position. His back was to one of the goals and his eyes were on Beka and the ball.

((Didn't think she was. Heh, this is Cam's screwed up way at showing Beka that he's not angry anymore.))

"Probably." Her eyes dart up to the basket, calculating. Then down to Cam, but she doesn't let her gaze linger, even though he doesn't seem angry.

She trots several steps to her weaker left side, remembering to "dribble", then ducks off to her right, trying to dodge Cam.

((She gets that much. But she's really unsure of how things stand. Do you want me to have her open the conversation with an apology? Or should she wait for him to say something?))

Cam quickly moves to compensate, aiming to knock the ball out of her hands and block her at the same time. It's only now that he seems to remember just how physical a sport this can be, and he reigns in his reactions, keeping himself from touching her. It doesn't stop them from getting close, though, and maybe that was why he suggested it in the first place as he whispers to her. "Sorry."

Beka notices two things, instantly. One, Cam is really close to her. Two, he's letting her get by. The first feels a lot better than it should. The second annoys her--it's a game. If they're playing, they should play. She keeps moving, spinning behind him. "I'm sorry too. It really wasn't supposed to be like that." Then she leans in and whispers. "I'm not like that."

"No, I was really hoping you weren't." He swallows and does the only thing he can think of. He grabs for the ball, manages to catch it from her hands and turns around, heading for the hoop.

She blinks. She hadn't expected that. Not knowing quite what she's supposed to do, she tries to get between him and the basket. "I wanted to tell you. Ask you to help me stop Parker. I didn't know how," she says, while she tries to block.

For a moment the anger is back, but instead of directing it at her, he aims for the hoop and watches the ball hit the ring and miss. "The truth would have been a good start."

She snags the ball out from under the hoop, dribbles. Looks at him. "The truth." She sighs. "When I heard what Parker was up to, it worried me. But Crichton was an ass." She bounces the ball, hard, off the wall behind the basket. Mad at herself (OOC: and, not being a basketball player, her mun doesn't know which basket she's supposed to shoot for. *laughs*).

"I originally got involved to protect you." Her tone is a bit too fierce. "And Aeryn. But it all sort of snowballed."

"Yeah, it did." Cam sighed and caught the ball, bouncing it between his hands. "I still shouldn't have blown at you like that. Or I should have at least listened to Aeryn and stopped you from getting yourself hurt." He bounces the ball hard on the ground and then shrugs. "I wasn't thinking."

"I felt responsible, for all of it. Even though it was Parker's stupid idea. And even though I called Aeryn and we busted Parker's plot within minutes of Crichton waking." She's got nothing to do with her hands. Nowhere right to look. She stares at the wall. "I didn't want to be stopped. I needed to get the pain out."

((OOC: I can't remember if I told you this or not, but the potion was supposed to give Cam his memories back instantly. But Parker's mun got ticked and I was stuck. I should've told you. Beka's not the only one who is sorry.))

He nods slowly, the ball now still in his hands. "Let's just agree that we all did some stupid things and I'm sorry for letting my temper get the best of me. I just needed room to think and I have now..." He stoped and looks up at Beka. "I'm just not sure where this leaves us now. I trusted you and I'm not sure I do now."

((Yeah, that's what I thought it would do. Thanks for clarifying.))

She nods too. "I'm sorry for getting so emotional. No one ever cared the way you did. It kinda messed with me." The next part hurts. More than it should. It's not like she didn't expect it. "It goes both ways. I trusted you to know me. To at least give me a chance to explain. When you didn't..."

She shrugs. Any way she'd finish that sentence would pick a fight she doesn't want. "I guess this leaves us as people who used to care about each other."

((*shrugs* I hated the whole thing.))

Cameron looks away and nods. "I suppose it does. I still care, I just... Ican't pretend this didn't happen."

"I know. I don't really blame you. Though I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt." She suspects it will hurt for a long time. But she's a Valentine. And pain is...life. "Maybe we could try to start over. Learn to be friends?"

He looks up, smiling slightly. "I think I'd like that."

She smiles. Trying not to let it show how much that means to her. "Me too. I could use a few friends." She sticks out her hand in the way she's seen the guys do ~~when they're trying not to be gay~~.

((OMG. My cat just knocked an entire stack of glass-framed photos waiting to be hung, off my desk. *sigh* No breakage, but geez. Cats.))

He grins and takes her hand. "Yeah, me too."

((Oops! Lucky, though.))

She grins back. "Can I ask you about something, in a totally nonangsty non-psycho ex I don't have a clue about Earth customs but maybe you do way, friend?"

((*headdesk* Yeah. Especially because his littermate was sitting right underneath the desk.))

"Sure," relieved that they haven't killed each other and this conversation has run a lot smoother than he expected, Cameron starts dribbling the ball again.

Glad they're talking again, but still needing to work off the edges, she tries to steal the ball from him. "What's the deal with this Homecoming thing? I mean, can I just ask someone? Or does that mean I like them?"

He really hadn't expected that question and loses control over the ball. "I er... you don't have to like them like them. It can be a friends thing, depends on what you want from it."
