River, with a stack of DVDs in her hand, slips into the common room. Might as well get some familiarity with these 80s movies before she shows them the night after tomorrow, right? She glances at the titles in her hand, then selects one, pops it into the player, and settles into a chair with the remote.

Real Genius, hmmm?

She hits play, and the strains of Carmen McRae singing fill the room.

I'm a sentimental sap, that's all

Marty plops down on the sofa with popcorn.

"Real Genius! Ah... classic."

*reaches her hand for Marty's popcorn* "Do you mind? River's just choked all over mine.

Marty holds the bowl out to Maia.

"Help yourself. River's not getting the 80's wacky fun scientific comedy is she?"

No, I blew the whole nitrogen quarter thing for her too. *whispers* I didn't tell her about the bra bomb though.

[OOC: I haven't seen this movie is so long I don't even remember the bra bomb.]

((OOC: I think its a bra, might be underware... might be a different film, its been ages for me too... there is something with underware or popcorn... maybe its popcorn...))

[ OOC: I suspect Maia's mun was just trying to throw River off the scent. Or something like that. :) ]

"But she's psychic right? Shoul I be thinking of prime numbers so she doesn't hear my thoughts about the scene with the car in the dorm room and the whole 'rue the day' sequence?" Marty whispers back.

Maia glances over at them and grins. "thats ok Marty, you have plenty of opportunities in the future to totally embarrass yourself in front of me. Dont think of Prime Numbers on my account.

"Oh? You're psychic too? Great. I look forward to the humiliation."

River smiles knowingly and turns a disbelieving stare on Maia. "Uh-huh. Riiiiight."

"Hey!" She swats at him playfully. "I'm getting it! It's good stu--" Her eyes go wide at the screen as she smiles in astonishment. " 'It's heading for the fuel tanks'?!?"

Her mouths falls open, and she appears to be (successfully) smothering giggles. "This is so very strange."

"Shiny. I haven't seen it before, I'm afraid... as the droplets of soda on my shirt will testify." River rolls her eyes self-deprecatingly. "So... wow. Do dorms at other institutions really look like that?"

She looks as though she's considering constructing something that could be filed under "H" for "toy".

"Well most of them don't have secret passages leading from your closet to some hidden weirdos hiding place. Then again, we've got a squid living in the basement so I guess I shouldn't talk."

~~Makes note to self to check closet for secret passages when back in room~~

"Well, there is that. Lasers? Hey, shiny!" She leans forward to pay closer attention to the apparatus on-screen.

"If you're looking for schematics I think you'll be disappointed."

"Well, sure, but... I was considering maybe adapting something for my physics class project later..." She looks thoughtful for a moment, then shakes her head. "Nah. I couldn't get the parts here, I don't think."

"If you're looking for a Laser, you need to go to town and see if that Solo guy has anything leftover from his intergalactic yard sale."

"Not a bad thought. And if I can't afford it, I'm pretty sure I can adapt something just from the basic look of his." She leans back against the chairback with a contented smile. "Tamade, that guy with the big glasses is such a jerk."

"Well he's the typical ineffectual villain that we all get to laugh at when the protagonist perpetrates his wacky revenge. Standard 80's geek film standard."

"Shiny!" River looks intrigued. "So there's more like these?"

"Look for any movie in the 80's labelled comedy with Cusack or Anthony Michael Hall and you have solid gold of fun I tell ya."
