In the 2nd floor common room...
River perches patiently on a chair arm, with a determined scowl on her face.
Gorram zombies. Gorram gory aftermaths. Gorram two-day DVD rentals.
Everything was prepared. Again. Half a dozen two-liter bottles of soda, napkins, and a bowl of tortilla chips and salsa stood on the table in the back of the room. The DVDs -- Better Off Dead, Real Genius, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Risky Business, License to Drive, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, 16 Candles, Heathers, and a handful of others that had looked promising -- were laid out on the end table between the comfortable chair and the sofa.
Now all I need is some guests. And possibly some alcohol. If no-one shows, I'm definitely not going to go through this sober.

And the fact that it would've provided an opportunity to 'comfort' Oz has NOTHING to do with that. At all. Nope.Accepting the challenge, Duce smiles at Oz. She's not looking at the tv at all. She also cheats wildly, as several of her snakes are.
"From the sound of it? We're about halfway into Better Off Dead. It's appropriate. Angsty, but appropriate."

"And you're trying to maintain that status quo?" Duce teases lightly, "Or are the snakes doing something we should be aware of?"

"I..." he nods. "I like you." He says it quickly, words tripping over each other.

What an intelligent, witty response, Duce! Let's try that again in English. "Uh. Huh. Like. Yeah, that's cool, you like us, we're friends, roommates even, so, yeah, totally normal and.. uh.. yeah, of course. We like you too."
Babbling. Inwardly, she cringes, and the gnome in her head's back with the IDIOT stick again.
Of course he couldn't mean it like you think he means it!But what if he does? But what if he doesn't?But..no subject
Oz rubbed a hand over his hair, making it jet out wildly in spots. "I...yeah. That's...that's all I meant. Just...friends." See, he could babble too. Not as much or as effortlessly, but he could do it. String more than two or three words together.
The alternative was to shut down. He gave her a smile. A brave smile.

She gives him a brave smile right back, even if it does tremble a bit around the edges. "We're making an idiot of ourself. We are shutting up, right now. You can.. ignore.. the babble, please."
She resolutely faces the TV again. Movie. Distraction. Good.

"That's not..." His eyes close. If she didn't want it, if she didn't like him like that, what would stop the snakes from biting his face? Hadn't she told him they were poisonous? "Not really what I meant."
His breath shudders. "Maybe we could...leave? It's warm in here. I'm not feeling very social."

Duce concentrates on that whole being a good friend thing, and most definitely doesn't jump at a legitimate excuse to be alone with Oz. Ignoring that whole 'not what he meant' thing for the moment, because to acknowledge it would probably instigate a conversation she isn't sure she wants to have in public, she nods, "Sure? We've seen all these movies, so.. yeah, if you wanna leave, we can bail."
no subject
"Yeah...pretty much...need to bail."
[OOC: And I am needing to get horizontal. Gotta work tomorrow. Grrrr. But, gah, these two need to talk. Alone. Yes.]

[ooc: I read the first part of that and went 'You want to WHAT?!' .. and then saw the rest and nearly spit chai through my nose. Feel free to start a new post. We can continue tomorrow or something.]

He idly scratches at his arm, tugs at the collar of his T-shirt, and stands with a hand held down to help her up.
[OOC: Heh1 Sorry if I confused you...Anyway, postis up, I'll be home around 3:15 est if I don't drop off at the store after work. I have an appt at 5, but will be online by 7, or so]

She takes the hand and stands. She absently neglects to let go once she's taken possession of the hand, and follows Oz out. Her free hand waves goodbye to people.
[ooc: Works. I don't get home til 5:30CST, so should be on around the time you come home from appt. Get some rest!]

"Cool by me. I'm just glad both of you could drop in, at least for a little while. It was very nice to meet you."
