In the 2nd floor common room...

River perches patiently on a chair arm, with a determined scowl on her face.

Gorram zombies. Gorram gory aftermaths. Gorram two-day DVD rentals.

Everything was prepared. Again. Half a dozen two-liter bottles of soda, napkins, and a bowl of tortilla chips and salsa stood on the table in the back of the room. The DVDs -- Better Off Dead, Real Genius, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Risky Business, License to Drive, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, 16 Candles, Heathers, and a handful of others that had looked promising -- were laid out on the end table between the comfortable chair and the sofa.

Now all I need is some guests. And possibly some alcohol. If no-one shows, I'm definitely not going to go through this sober.

"You know, I've never actually tasted that. Could you pour me a glass?" River rapidly revises that last request as she smiles at Jayne. "A small glass."

"Er hi." Alanna hands her a 'Alanna for Student Security! A Healer and a Fighter' sticker. "Vote for me for Securities Officer!" Her grin is slightly stopped by the bruise on her cheek.

"Excellent!" River grins, cheeks already flushed from what looks like a shot glass half full of Mudder's Milk. "You're going to have to explain this whole 80's thing to me. Completely different history."

River wanders back from her conversation with Duce and Oz, with a contented (and possibly slightly inebriated) smile on her face. She nibbles at her lip, then gently taps Lilly on the shoulder. "So what's in that bag of yours? I've been trying Jayne's Mudder's Milk all night, and I'm looking for some variation."

Angela needs distraction, and nothing in her room is providing it. For want of a better idea, she makes her way down to the second floor common room and sits on the floor.

"Hi," she says to River. "I ... um, didn't bring anything. Except myself."

"Hey, um, water girl. Sorry, can't remember your name. Mind if I join you?" The bruise on Alanna's cheek has gone down in color, but is still very visible. She's holding on to, yet another, platter full of pastries.

Marty walks up to the party also looking for distraction and sees Angela.

Feeling guilty he sits on the other side of the room.

"Hey, Angela!" River exclaims. "That's OK... it's kind of a for-fun get-to-know-some-new-things kind of party anyways. It's good to see you!"

River seems surprisingly... happy. Perhaps it's that half-full shot glass of Mudder's Milk she's holding.

Duce wanders in, smiling uncertainly. This whole being social thing is new and shiny for her. She wanders over to River, bringing her a white pasteboard box. "Hi. Thanks for having a party. We love 80's movies. We brought some baked goods.. donuts. Promise they're not cursed or poisoned or.. anything like that. Shouldn't do anything freaky to anyone except give 'em a sugar high."

"Ooooh. Yes. Definitely." River downs the remnants of her shot glass of Mudder's Milk with a single motion, then reaches for the beer. "So what's this stuff, then?"

She swigs from the bottle, and her lips purse up with the bitterness of the brew. She swallows with some effort, then comments. "Ummm. Hmmm. Not bad. But maybe I'll keep it to a minimum. How're you? I haven't seen you all week!"

Draco wonders in. He doesn't know anything about the theme for Homecoming so he figures showing up couldn't hurt. At least he'll know what to wear.

"Um...hey. I brought some liqour."

Holds up a bag containing some Bacardi "Zombie".

"I liked the irony." he says

"Irony, not so much with liking. Bacardi? Very much." Lilly sizes him up. "Are you here for the educational experience, or the booze and fun?"

"OK! Everyone!" River stands up in front of the TV. "First movie of the night -- Better Off Dead!" She gestures with the DVD case, then continues, "Which seems strangely appropriate given the events of the weekend. If no one has any objections..."

She appears to not particularly be looking for a response as she opens the DVD case and slips the disc into the player.

Duce watches. About halfway through, she has a low conversation with Oz. It looks as if they're flirting. But of course, they wouldn't be. They're just friends. Roommates. Platonic. Totally. (above-thread)

Marty sits back and watches Lane ski the time trials and get dumped by his shallow girlfriend. Ahhh... the wonders of 80's movies.

As the final credits for Better Off Dead roll upwards on the television screen, River happily calls for attention at the front of the room. "All right! Everyone! For the next movie... I was thinkin' Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Yeah? No?"

The shot glass she's been carrying about is suspiciously empty.
