In the third floor common room

Rory wanders into the common room, holding a cup of coffee and a stack of flyers. She also has a bag of "Vote Rory!" buttons and "RG for SR" ribbons thrown over her shoulder.

She flops down on the couch after pinning up a few flyers, and starts absently flipping through the channels.

"Really? Ugh, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that," Rory says, wincing. "Did you go anywhere after?"

Nah, once I got back to my room an' got the stain out of my dress, I sorta lost track of what was goin' on, so I just, like, hung out and did some songwritin'.

Which reminds me, I need t'find out if my roommate's been officially declared missin' yet. Oh. Sorry, tangent. How was Homecomin' for you?

"It was...fun, after we got away from the creepiest dinner ever," Rory says, grinning. "Never go to the Old Firm for anything, especially food."

I'll make a note of that. Old Firm, bad. Check. They even sound kinda creepy.

Rory shudders. "They are. We had to pretend we were vegetarians - which isn't as easy as you'd think."

"We have no idea. I don't think any of us actually ate anything they gave us - wait, no, I take that back. Logan had a bite of bruschetta, and everyone but me had some wine. Maybe there wasn't anythng wrong with any of it, but these guys were the kind of creepy where the meat could well have been from something or someone I'd really rather not eat."

"Good plan. I never would've, but my boyfriend made the reservations without checking it out first."

"I know! And then at dinner, he was totally daring all of us to eat. Like, maybe not verbally, but y'know, with his eyes and stuff," Rory says, rolling her eyes. "Boys are dumb."

They really are. Y'know, like, my boyfriend hasn't called me for two weeks now.

"Two weeks?" Rory exclaims. "Have you called him?"

Yeah, I left him voicemails--I mean, he's in college, y'know? And I sent him letters. We usually write to each other, but he hasn't done that, either. I'm startin' to get squallin' ticked.

"Ooh, an older man," Rory says, arching a brow and grinning. "Don't blame you for getting annoyed, though. I've been in a similar situation, and I know how unfun it is."

Not so much older as, well, incredibly squallin' genius. He was my partner in chem lab last year, until MIT snapped him up. *sigh*

"Aw, stupid MIT," Rory says sympathetically. "But that's still really cool for him. Of course, it sucks for you, but hey...letter-writing is a lost art."

Yeah, but...my letters have degenerated to *whiny voice* 'Dear Ginger, why haven't you called me?" *end whiny voice* and really I'm more liberated than this I swear and what am I doing? I shouldn't be loading all this off on you! You have the election to get ready for! Squall, I'm sorry, Rory.

"No, seriously, don't worry. I'm trying to think of anything but the election. Boy troubles are a welcome distraction."

She bites her lip, thinking. "Maybe he's writing an ode to you, and doesn't want to call you until he's done?"

An ode? *considers* I guess it's a possibility.

It might be sorta partly my fault--when I had the flu, I asked him to Homecomin', which I knew was impossible, an' I got kinda upset when he told me know. But I was sick! He knew I was sick! My squallin' judgment was impaired!

"Ah...well, have you talked about that since it happened?" Rory asks.

Rory frowns. "Maybe you should make some kind of grand gesture. Didn't you mention something about songwriting?"

*wry grin* I tried that, once upon a time. Wrote him a song an' sung it in the rain. Backfired dramatically...it's kinda a long story.

"Eek," Rory says, wincing again. "Why is it that when guys try bold gestures, it's romantic, but if a girl does anything out of the ordinary, we're considered desperate or psychotic? My ex-boyfriend built me a car. We all agreed that that was romantic, and not weird that he spent all that time and money, et cetera. I, however, dressed up like Donna Reed as a joke because he mentioned missing the whole fifties ideal wife thing, and he thought it was insane."

She shakes her head. "I repeat, boys are dumb"
