Monday Afternoon at the Firing Range

Beka should be writing her gossip column. She should be finishing up her Ethics assignment with Buffy. She should be telling Phoebe how sorry she is about the kiss. She should be telling Angelus that she hates him for what he did to Bel.

There are a lot of things she should be doing. But most of them require thinking about things she doesn't want to think about.

After yesterday, being trapped between Raynor, Elizabeth and Angelus, with a humiliated Bel who wouldn't defend himself, all she really wants is to blow things up. No time for a trip, and too many responsibilities. So it's the firing range for her.


[ooc: open post, and Beka will go to great pains not to expose her emo to anyone but her closest friends. Also, feel free to come in and shoot without interacting with Beka if it suits you. Just figured plenty of people might have PW traumas that a little shooting might not hurt. ;)]

"Remind me to stay on your good side. It was! All that hair pulling and growling and... It was awful." Her eyes grew faintly wider, and she busied herself with checking out her pulse pistol, which was totally fine since she'd been firing it when Piper walked in.

Beka groused under her breath about not having magic, wishing she had magic, hating being powerless, and related issues. "I'd say you could use me as a moving target. But I'm guessing you're new enough at this for that not be safe. What do you know about your powers and how they work? Maybe we can start there. Right. I'll remember that the next time I catch you checking out his ass."

Piper felt the opposite. She'd gladly give up her powers if it meant not being a target for evil. "Oh I would never ask you to do that even if I had control of it. What I do know about this power? It's kind of like a weapon in some ways. I just aim my hands and things go poof. Trouble is? My aim sucks. Can you really blame me?!

Beka shrugged. "I'm good at dodging. Lots of practice. Sometimes Bel and I play with fire in the gym. Or in the Underworld. Or...well, pretty much everywhere. Do you need a trigger or is it just 'poof'? Don't worry so much about the aim at first. If you have decent coordination and focus, that comes with time. Just so long as you can contain it to a safe space. Hell no. Why do you think I'm angsting so hard over a kiss?"

Beka set down her gun. "All right. Then the first thing you need to do is figure out whether you actually can make it happen. Try thinking of something that makes you angry. Like the fact that a threesome with Bel is way off-limits."

Piper tried to concentrate on something that angered her, settling on evil beings that might want her dead and not on what Beka suggested. Not at all. Without a second thought, Piper threw her hands out instinctively and took out the target. "I did it!"

Beka grinned. "Yeah. You did. Although, from the looks of it, it's still too fast for you to control." With a flip of her wrist, Beka picked up the pulse pistol, flicked off the safety, then fired three shots into her target. "Fast'll save your life. But only if you can count on it. I don't know anything about magic but if I was trying to learn... I'd break it down. Try to turn it into steps that I could practice until I had control over each. It'd be good to be able to stop it, too, you know?"
