Janet had just been gathering her books to go to the library when she heard someone knock. When she opened the door, she saw Daniel standing there looking upset.
"I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be telling you this; the Dean said that he'll be making an official announcement later. But she's been missing for several days now, and Dean Bristow... believes that there's enough evidence to presume that she's dead."
Daniel shuddered, pulling Janet as close to him as physically possible.
"You're allowed to worry, but I'm a grown woman." Janet looked down at herself and shrugged. "Mostly. I can take care of myself. Daniel, what else are you going to do? Wrap me in cotton and protect me from the world?"
Daniel sighed. "It was worth asking. Promise me that you won't do anything stupid? I know you can take care of yourself, but I don't want to lose you. Not again."
"It wasn't worth asking. You already knew what the answer would be." Janet frowned at him and absently rubbed at the back of her neck. "I didn't die because I did something stupid."
"I could always hope," Daniel said. "And I know last time it wasn't something stupid. But I'm scared that something will happen to you here, especially with a student turning up dead."

Kitty was MIA, and presumed dead? One of the students? Janet sighed. This was high school. They weren't supposed to deal with that in high school.

He noticed the math book on her bed. "I'm sorry, I've interrupted you working," he said, feeling sheepish. "I felt that I had to see you though."
