Third Floor Common Room, Sunday Morning

It's still a little early to visit the clinic again, but Angela is up anyhow.

Something about the whole weekend is stopping her from sleeping.

She's curled up on the couch, wrapped in a fuzzy yellow blanket. She's watching old Bugs Bunny cartoons and trying to fight a strange craving for toast.

Alanna stumbled into the common room, basically looking about as good as she felt.

"Hi, Alanna," Angela says, barely raising her head from the couch. "What's up?"

Alanna made a random grumbling noise. "Stomach bug. Something wrong?"

"Ick," Angela says. "And, um ... have you heard the news at all the last couple days? Or did Marty call you?"

Alanna shook her head. "I've been pretty much asleep all of the past two days. Felt kind of icky on Friday afternoon, decided to take a nap. Basically woke up a few hours ago for the first time without wanting to throw up. Did something happen?"

"So you missed all the fun stuff," Angela says. She takes a deep breath. "Okay. I don't know if Marty mentioned this to you or not, but we were working on a spell that gives Angelus a soul, which makes it less likely he'll -- you know. Kill people."

"So, anyhow, we went to do the spell on Friday. Miss Maclay did it for us. And at the same time, Angelus attacked Rory and Logan Echolls. He ran off before killing them, but they're still stuck in the infirmary, and we have no idea whether the spell worked or not."

"And on top of all that? Professor Drusilla is a vampire, too. She and Marty got into a fight and he was in the clinic until this morning."

"So ... yeah, something happened."

Alanna took a deep breath to convince her stomach to stay down and stared at Angela. "Did the spell work? And um, is everyone going to make it?" She made a note to swing by the clinic as soon as she could count on her stomach to be evil once more.

"We don't know, and yes, thank god. Though Rory still can't get out of bed." She shudders. "I mean, Parker says she talked to Ms. Maclay and Tara thinks the spell worked, and Logan thinks he saw something happen to Angelus. But until I see either him or a big pile of dust? I'm not believing anything."

"Anything I can do to help? And how exactly do we know it worked, or you know, it didn't?" Alanna tilted her head to the side for a moment. "How do you kill vampires anyway? Swords?"

"That's the problem," Angela says heavily. "I mean, there might be a magical way to tell he got the soul, but I don't know it. Mostly? We have to just go by how he acts. And considering that he managed to fool most of the school into thinking vampires are just misunderstood, that probably isn't a safe way to tell."

She pauses, rubbing at her forehead. "The good thing is, vampires aren't hard to kill if you can trap them. A stake in the heart, cutting off their head, holy water -- a lot of it -- sunlight, fire .... they all work. But we would still need to catch him if he did go bad again."

"If he went good in the first place." Alanna pointed out. "And I think I'll go for the head chopping, easier with Lightning. How's Marty?"

"He's..." Angela screws up her face. "I think he looks worse than he feels at this point, but he's not good. Broken wrist, concussion, lots of bruises. But he's supposed to get out of the clinic today, so I guess he's healing."

"I hope they fire Drusilla over this, I really do."

Alanna winced. "A teacher attacked a student and they don't get fired? And it wasn't Martila Arts class? The parents will start sending in complaints."

"I wish I believed that," Angela says. "I mean, Marty doesn't exactly have the most innocent reputation. So I'm sure, somehow, they'll spin it so it was his fault. The school hired Drusilla to start with, so ... I hate to say this, but I don't trust them at all."

She laughs, a little bitter sound. "It all kind of makes you want to go back to bed, huh?"

Alanna nodded. "Yeah. Well, I hope Marty doesn't get into trouble over this, from the sound of it, he doesn't deserve to."
