Anders having done most of the prep work (and being zomg busy with his whole pyramid thing today!), Vala had agreed to actually run the ~~psychology experiment~~ cookie taste-testing.

She sets out a table in the lobby of the dorms with a big sign offering "Free Cookie Taste Test!"

Anyone who stops by she makes try one cookie from each of two festively decorated holiday cookie plates, one prominently labeled "Regular NPC Company Holiday Cookies!" the other labeled "New Recipe NPC Company Holiday Cookies!"

She explains to anyone who asks that she got a temp job running the taste-test for NPC Brand on campus, and happily offers anyone who passes by one of each kind, just as long as they tell her which they prefer, so she can mark it down in her book.

Come on! She gets paid per response people! Help a fellow student out! Plus, free cookies during finals! What could be better?

(and no, they're not weird, magically whammied, poisoned or anything else. They're just cookies. Really! :)

After his math final, Anders stops in his room long enough to change and drop off his books before heading down to the gym. Seeing Vala set up in the lobby, he manages a faint smile and heads over for a moment.

"Hey, Vala. How're things going so far?"

"Actually, we're doing pretty well," Vala whispers. "Definite votes on both sides. I think we have enough of a sample already, but I figure the more we get, the better our grade, right?"

Anders screws up his face in thought for a moment. "Yeah, something about bigger is better, right? I mean, for sample sizes and stuff. Plus it makes us look like we didn't just do the least possible work, right? I mean, hey, cookies. Who's gonna say no?"

"Exactly!" She looks serious for a moment. "How are you doing, I mean with the whole thing tonight?"

"Oh, man." He blows out a long breath that makes his hair ruffle up in front a bit. "I was just about to head down there. It's gonna be weird, now that I gotta do it by myself. I think I'll be okay, though. Maybe. Cally'll probably kick my ass if I don't do okay," he adds with a strained laugh.

Vala winces. "Yeah, I heard about Kara. She gonna be all right?"

Anders shoves his hands into his pockets and stares at the plate of "new recipe" cookies, kicking the table leg a bit as he does so. "Not in time for today. Doc thinks it's an anterior cruciate ligament tear, could be anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months, maybe a year to completely recover. I called the guy from the league this morning, told him what happened, and he sounded like they'd give her another shot once she was better. But still, it's not the same coming back after an injury, you know?" He waves a hand around near his temple. "There's, like, weird psychological issues and stuff. Haven't gone to see her since last night, though. Don't think she wants me to anyway."

"Ow, that sounds really bad. Are you all set for your try-out though?"

"Yeah." Anders sighs. "Speaking of which, I should go. Won't look too good if I'm late. I'll check back in when I get back though, see if you need any help?"

"Sounds good. Things seem to be slowing down anyway now it's getting later. Good luck!"

"Thanks," says Anders, giving her a real smile this time. "Let you know how it goes."
