Room 412: Overdue Library Book

Janet waited outside Belthazor's room for Zero to join her.

He'd had a book out since October 3rd. Seventy-nine days. It was past time to get that book back.

And since the book was from Special Collections? The fine was going to be pretty damn expensive.

Janet smiled. Being a library assistant could be such a fun job sometimes.

"Book? What book?" Bel said innocently.

This is strictly a gremlin deterrent device. Or so it says on the paperwork. An' you know squallin' well which book.

"Not being a gremlin, I hope you don't intend to attempt to use it on me," Bel said smoothly, "since you're holding it so threateningly. And honestly, I have no book from the library checked out. There must be some mistake."

Janet gave Belthazor a disbelieving look. "I may have been possessed at the time, but I certainly remember you coming into the library looking for a book from Special Collections on a project for Professor Crazy Squid Lady."

She paused long enough to let her look turn into a glare. "Seventy-nine days ago, Belthazor."

The fine is five dollars a day, I believe. And we'll be needing that book.

"Oh, that book!" Bel said. "Yeah, I returned that a couple weeks ago. I mean, with Dru-Crazy Squid Lady gone, didn't need it for my project for her."

Then he blinked as Parker's camera went off.
