Room 412: Overdue Library Book

Janet waited outside Belthazor's room for Zero to join her.

He'd had a book out since October 3rd. Seventy-nine days. It was past time to get that book back.

And since the book was from Special Collections? The fine was going to be pretty damn expensive.

Janet smiled. Being a library assistant could be such a fun job sometimes.

"Ditto. I'll just stand here with the camera, if that's okay?" Parker said, as Esme peaked out of her carryall and wiggled her nose at Zero and her mallet.

Parker nodded, chortled, and backed up, camera at the ready.

Callisto had no real reason to be on the forth floor, but was anyway. "Hey Janet."

"Hey, Callisto," said Janet. "We're going to collect the last overdue library book of the semester from Belthazor. Want to help?"

Callisto never was one to resist temptation. "Sure."

Parker came by on her way out, Esme in her carryall, trailing luggage, and stopped. "Camera. Where is my camera?!?" she said, searching through her bags frantically.

Bel was stepping out of the shower when he heard the knock on the door. He almost yelled "Come in," but decided not to, because if by some chance it was Angel he didn't want to give him an invitation but the idea of showing off how good he looked in just a towel was tempting. So he walked to the door and opened it up. Surprised to see Janet and Zero, he said, "Phoebe's not here, if that's who you're looking for."

Actually, we'd like to have a word with you. *mallet to attack readiness*

Bel eyed the mallet. "Aren't weapons not allowed in the school?" he said, raising an eyebrow. "Or, you know, attacking other students."

"You've got an overdue library book," said Janet, keeping her gaze locked on Belthazor's face. The man was evil, but he could pull off answering the door in nothing but a towel and look good doing it. "There's a hefty fine on those, you know."

"Book? What book?" Bel said innocently.

This is strictly a gremlin deterrent device. Or so it says on the paperwork. An' you know squallin' well which book.

"Not being a gremlin, I hope you don't intend to attempt to use it on me," Bel said smoothly, "since you're holding it so threateningly. And honestly, I have no book from the library checked out. There must be some mistake."

Hey, there were women at the school who'd pay money just for that. Phoebe might, to make sure the others didn't get it.

"Parker, did I ever tell you how much I admire your sense of timing?" Callisto drawled.

"Thanks, Callisto," Parker replied, grinning. "Would you be willing to spring for copies? Or should I just get you a password to the website I'll be putting up?"

Bel blinked as the camera went off. "Didn't know you were so eager to get half-naked pictures of me, Parker," he said with a grin. "You didn't need to bring the mallet goon squad. You could've just asked."

"Hey Bel." Callisto waved. "Feeling a little cold?"

Okay technically she wasn't even looking but you don't waste an opportunity to use that line.

"Why, you offering to give a lapdance like I heard you did for Angel last night?" Bel said.

"Bel, Bel, Bel," Callisto rolled her eyes. "What makes you think a lapdance was all I gave Angel?"

Again, not that she'd actually done that, but it was "wind up the emodemon" time.

"You didn't return it," said Janet. "You do realize that the instant I was no longer possessed, I pulled the records on that book and checked it out to you, right?"

Bel scratched his head. "Huh. I could've sworn I returned it. Well, I'll take a look around and get back to you on it then." He moved to shut the door.

*There might be a croquet mallet between the door and the frame.* You don't seem to understand. We're leaving for the holidays. And all library business will be concluded before we leave the island. So. Book. Now. Cough it up.
