Christmas Eve, Second Floor Common Room

Sam sat in the common room, idly flipping through channels. No specials were on, and there was only so long she could watch the Yule log. She sipped occasionally from a glass of red wine.

She was trying very, very hard not to think of her father.

"Don't call him a monkey," said Janet. "I don't think he likes that very much. And all he says is 'ook,' but it's a very expressive kind of ooking."

"Okay, I'll remember not to do that. Still..." John shakes his head. "Where's Mr. Pierson going?"

"Didn't you hear?" asked Janet. "He'll be teaching history. I'd seriously recommend the classes; he knows a lot about the subject."
