Christmas Eve, Second Floor Common Room

Sam sat in the common room, idly flipping through channels. No specials were on, and there was only so long she could watch the Yule log. She sipped occasionally from a glass of red wine.

She was trying very, very hard not to think of her father.

"Sam!" Bridge said as he peered through the doorway into the Common Room, "been looking for you!"

He then ran off, only to return a minute later with two (http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/mugs/5d28/) packages (http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/mugs/3820/) wrapped in shiny green paper, which he hands to Sam.

"I know they're early. Or late, considering that I think everyone else has already given out their holiday gifts, but um, here!" he says brightly.

"Bridge! Hi!" Sam smiled up at him from her chair. "I forgot you were going to be here. How's your night going?"

It's been really quiet, and Aeryn isn't used to that here, so when she finds Sam in the common room, it's a relief. She's also ignoring the plants still hanging from the ceiling, because that still makes no sense to her.

"Hi," Aeryn says, taking a seat.

"Hey, Aeryn," Sam said, gesturing with her glass. She was actually relieved to see someone who wouldn't attach any special significance to the day. "How're you doing?"

Janet yawned and walked tiredly into the common room.

"I'm bored," she said. Sam looked like she was trying not to be depressed, so Janet decided to avoid talking about it and go for distraction instead. "Do we want to get drunk or to watch TV?"

Sam smiled. "Can't we do both?"

"Janet!" Bridge says with a cheerful wave before bouncing off the couch and returning moments later with an oddly-shaped package containing an assortment of these (http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/plush/6708/). "Here!"

Sometimes living next door to the common room had its disadvantages, but there were advantages too; as, for instance, getting early notice of a fun gathering starting up, just on account of the voices.

Anders, being rather clueless about technical matters, decided to let Cally have a few minutes to tinker with the fifty million new tools she'd gotten for Christmas presents, and headed over to the common room with a tray of cupcakes, grinning when he saw Sam, Bridge, Janet, and Aeryn there.

"Hey, guys! Merry day-before-Christmas!"

Sam grinned and leaned forward to get a cupcake, then stopped in mid-reach and eyed him skeptically. "Did you make these?"

Aeryn waves, realizing she has no idea what the technical name for today is.

"Anders! Dude!" Bridge says, before bouncing off to his room once again.

He comes back a minute later holding two packages in shiny blue paper which he hands to Anders. "Here, dude. Because his room is boring and empty, because his presents are wrapped and hidden, John finds himself without anything to do.

Intending to just go outside and go for a walk, he instead finds people in the common room. The common room is much warmer then outside so he scrapes that plan and slips into the common room.

Sam waved at Crichton. "Hey, c'mon in!"

"Johndude!" Bridge calls out. "Hi!"

"Well, well, well. Such a heartwarming occurance. All of this holiday frivolity and jolliness." Smith smiles from the doorway into the common room. "Merry Christmas, students."

Janet raised one eybrow. "Merry Christmas to you too," she said, not quite as dryly as she normally might.

"Principal Smith, sir!" John straightens up and smiles. "Good to see you again."

Sam straightened and adjusted her body to hide the bottle and wine glass. She didn't know who the man was, but he looked official. "Merry Christmas."

Xander, yawning slightly and carrying Jeremiah in one hand, an overstuffed pillowcase in the other, with a sleeping bag under one arm, entered the common room, blinking at the unexpectedly large collection of people.

"Um." He set Jeremiah down on one of the coffee tables, and his sleeping bag on the floor. "I brought snacks, though we might have to do some kind of loaves and fishes thing to make the work for this many people."

Nevertheless, he opened up the pillowcase and started laying junk food out on the table next to Jeremiah.

Finally off the crutches, Kara walks gingerly into the common room.

"Kara!" Remembering what Lee had asked, John waves. "No more crutches?"

"Okay, thanks." Sam was determined not to be mopey with all these people around. "Good to see you're up and around again, Kara. Crutches are so annoying."

Ambrosia and Cigars for all!

Kara returns with a bottle of ambrosia and a case of cigars to share. She opens up the ambrosia and cigars, offering them to the room.

Marty walked into the Common room to see what was going on.

"Hey, Everyone," he said glumly.

"No emo here," Aeryn greets him. "It's Chrissmass."

The sound of bells and singing came from the vents. It was very quiet at first, but gradually increased in volume as it got closer to the second floor common room.

Because I am totally not missing this, Aeryn is pretty sure she hears something, but she can also blame the ambrosia.
