Christmas Eve, Second Floor Common Room

Sam sat in the common room, idly flipping through channels. No specials were on, and there was only so long she could watch the Yule log. She sipped occasionally from a glass of red wine.

She was trying very, very hard not to think of her father.

"They are..." She makes a gesture that says they're okay, but she has no idea how to actually answer the question verbally. "How are you doing?"

Kara takes a drink of wine and shrugs. "Could be worse I guess."

"As long as you haven't been possessed or turned into an animal yet," Aeryn nods, and pauses. "You haven't, right?"

Kara laughs a little. "Nope, and I'd like to keep it that way."

"I'm sad to say I've actually made that a goal..." Aeryn frowns.

"I guess you have to around here," Kara responds. "Crazy place."

"One of the strangest I've seen," Aeryn says. "And that's saying something." She's glad she's not temping fate or anything.

Kara drains the last of her wine, and thinks a moment. "I'll be right back."

She gets up carefully and goes to her room, picking up a full bottle of ambrosia and a case of cigars. Coming back in, she sits down and cracks open the bottle. "Want some?" Kara offers.

Since Aeryn doubts she's getting back to the gym, and remembers that no problems had come from drinking ambrosia, she shrugs. "Couldn't hurt," she says.

"That's what I like to hear," she says, grabbing two glasses and pouring out some of the green liquid. Kara hands a glass to Aeryn and raises it in toast before taking a gulp.

Aeryn imitates the toast gesture, and takes a drink. "It's probably a good thing the principal already left," she says.

Kara lights up a cigar and takes a drag. "Maybe he would have liked some," she says with a grin. "Cigar?"

Aeryn shakes her head. "If the principal drank with us, I think I'd be a little worried," she admits. "There are just certain things I can't handle."

"Just means you haven't had enough to drink," Kara says, filling up her glass.

"I'm trying not to wake up with a hangover on my first Chrissmass," she says, but doesn't stop Kara from filling it up.

"But that's what the holidays are all about. Eating a lot, drinking a lot and feeling frakking awful after, but having a great time doing it." Kara says with grin. "At least back home. What are holidays like where you're from?"

"We don't have them," she says. "Well, different planets and species and religions have their own, but I don't celebrate any of them. You have something like this?"

"Something like this? Not really, but we have two major holidays in summer and winter," Kara replies.

"Hangovers included?" Aeryn smiles.

Kara finishes her glass and says, "Damn right."

"It's better than the emo." Aeryn grins and takes a sip of her drink.
