Christmas Eve, Second Floor Common Room

Sam sat in the common room, idly flipping through channels. No specials were on, and there was only so long she could watch the Yule log. She sipped occasionally from a glass of red wine.

She was trying very, very hard not to think of her father.

Because I am totally not missing this, Aeryn is pretty sure she hears something, but she can also blame the ambrosia.

Without checking the room for occupants, the gremlins popped off the vent cover and piled out. Several of them were clutching the bells that Anakin had given them and all were draped in tinsel, broken ornaments and bits of garland.

They were still singing as they tumble out, but froze when they saw the students already in the room.

Kara sits up and peers at the sight. "Wow, that's some strong ambrosia."

Aeryn stares at the gremlins, and wonders who dressed them up for Christmas. Maybe they were pets.

Kara looks at her glass and back at the gremlins. "Are you seeing this?" she asks Aeryn.

When no immediate action was taken to chase them, one of the gremlins started ringing the bell it was holding. All of the gremlins tensed waiting for a reaction.

Aeryn nods and looks at Kara. "I heard that, too."

"Well, frak me. Too bad I don't have my damn crutches," she says.

When still no one chases them off, the other gremlins holding bells start playing again as well. They all still watch the students warily.

Xander, his first glass of ambrosia still in his hand with only a few sips gone, looked down at it, then over at Jeremiah. "I didn't lick you when I wasn't looking, right?" Then he looked back at the gremlins.

Aeryn finishes off her drink, because why not at this point, and watches the gremlins. She can't possibly be seeing this, and yet she wants her camera thing.

Kara just sits and drinks some more.

The gremlins started to relax as the students just sat there watching them. Slowly they began to sing. They weren't singing in English or any other recognizable language, but the tune was familiar:

"Jingle bells" *jingle* "Jingle bells" *jingle* "Jingle all the way".

Granted, Aeryn only knows the tune from the pageant. She still recognizes it. Her jaw drops slightly, because she's pretty sure they're being serenaded by gremlins.

"Frak me," Kara whispers under her breath. "This definitely calls for more alcohol." She opens up the bottle and fills up everyone's glasses.

Aeryn is thankful, and starts on the glass immediately.

At least if others are seeing it, she's not insane.

Without giving any care for verses or song breaks, the gremlins switch songs with no discussion. It is almost as if they are working off of a routine.

Again, the words aren't recognizable, but anyone who had heard the song before would recognize it:

"Here comes Santa Claus" *jingle* "Here comes Santa Claus" *jingle* "Right down Santa Claus Lane". *jingle jingle jingle*

"No one is ever going to believe us if we tell them that gremlins sang Christmas songs to us, all dressed up."

She drinks more.

"They aren't bad," Aeryn says. "I think." Drink.

[identity profile] fh-anonymous.livejournal.com 2005-12-25 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Again, the gremlins switch songs without warning:

*jingle* "Dreidel dreidel dreidel..." *jingle*

Aeryn leans back into the sofa cushion, watching the show. Maybe it's the ambrosia or just the absurdity of all of this, but it's really entertaining.

Xander eyes his full-again glass, shrugs, half drains it with an eye-widening gulp, and finds himself snuggling down into his sleeping bag as he waits for the throat-burn to wear off. Getting drowsy. Listening to gremlins. Because he so needs more reasons to start 'you're never gonna believe this' e-mails to Willow. Except he can say 'you're never gonna believe this' in person, tomorrow morning.
