Gym, Friday night

Angela has avoided the gym all semester, but something about the day has her feeling unusually pent-up, muscles needing to be stretched.

To fight this, she puts on workout clothes and finds her way to the gym. She begins doing a circuit on the Nautilus machines, but it's a few bases arranged in a diamond on the gym floor and a big red ball that had been left out that catch her eye. If just a few more people came to the gym, they could play kickball.

Angela likes kickball.

She roams back into the dorms and tapes a sheet of notepaper to the bulletin board on each floor, reading "LET'S PLAY KICKBALL. MEET IN THE GYM."

Then she returns to the weight machines, feeling silly as she waits to see if anyone will show.

"Cool." Anders takes the ball and heads toward about where he thinks the pitcher's mound is. "Chase, I'm assuming this is an underhand rolling kind of thing, not, like, windup and fastball at ninety-five?"

"Yeah -- the idea is for her to try to kick it. Three strikes and she's out, like in baseball. I'll go over to first base, and Cally can take third, if that works."

"Heh, if only we had a couple more players, I could take up the shortstop spot." Cally winks at Anders before hopping over and taking position on third base.

"Yeah, but third base ain't a bad place to be either, huh?" Anders grins at Cally and takes up his position, rolling the ball around in his hands to get a feel for the weight and size. It's about the same size as a basketball, so bigger than the Pyramid ball he's used to, but he's getting used to the basketball, too.

"Callisto, you ready?"

Callisto grinned "Bring it, Anders."

"Go Callisto!" Rory cheered from where she was on the sidelines.

"Kick the hell outta the ball, Callisto," John joins in.

Rory clapped and bounced. "C'mon, Callisto! Kick a home run!"

"Bringing it, as requested." Anders winds up and rolls the ball at Callisto -- not as hard as he can, because that'd just give her more momentum, but pretty hard anyway.

Steppng into the kick Callisto booted the ball as hard as she could, then started running towards the first base.

Angela blinks -- Cal kicked it hard -- and then scrambles after the ball. She catches it just after Callisto has run past her, then tosses it to Cally.

Cally catches the ball, but then looks at Angela. "Um... what am I supposed to do with this now?!"

"Tag her with it! Run after her and tag her!" yelps Anders, flailing his arms and pointing at Callisto.

Callisto barreled towards third base, picking up speed.

"Slide! Slide! Or do something but don't get tagged out!"

Cally closes her eyes and holds the ball out in front of her, hoping that will work properly.

Anders groans and facepalms quietly, ready to run over and check up on Cally if she gets knocked over.

Or when, rather, since it's looking pretty likely.

Callisto, misinterpreting Crichton's "Do something", aimed a tackle at Cally's midsection below the ball.

Cally, having her eyes closed, is totally unable to dodge or somesuch, and crumples to the ground with the force of the tackle, but still manages to tag Callisto on the back with the ball.

"OOOF." Cally winces with the impact.

"Coach? Coach?!?" Anders panics and runs over to check on Cally. Pointing at Callisto, he adds, "Hey, you're totally out, she tagged you!"

He goes back to checking Cally over, and may be hyperventilating just a bit.

Rory jogged out. "Anders, calm down," she said sternly. "And Callisto, that was unneccessary. It's a non-contact sport." She directed Callisto back to where she and John had been standing.

"Cally, you okay, though?"

Cally blinks a few times, and laughs a little.

"Hey, no contact? But that was fun." Cally slides up to her feet and shakes her head. "Okay, hurt a bit." She pops her back and grits her teeth for a second. "Okay, hurt a bit more than a bit. But no harm done. Honest."

"Do you need water or anything?" ANgela asks, still wincing. "That looked like it would hurt."

Anders still looks panicky, and he goes over and takes hold of Cally's arm, checking her over for injuries. "Coach? You hurt? You sure you're okay?"
