Rory blinked. Okay, then he's not talking about what I thought he was talking about...oh, shit. The mind thing.

"Wait, do you mean - " She shook her head. "But it was just us three, and you weren't supposed to - "

She broke off, frowning and clearly trying to puzzle it out.

It's not until a beat later that she realized that she might have been thinking out loud.

Logan shifted his weight slightly. He suspected she wasn't referring to Parker's first name anymore, if she ever was. "I wasn't supposed to - what? Find out?" he said with an edge to his voice.

"Never mind. Forget I said anything. What did you want to know?" Rory said quickly.

"At this moment? Whatever it is I'm not supposed to know," Logan said, raising his eyebrows at her.

"Not important," Rory said. "Forget I said anything. Did you know Parker's first name is Maureen?"

"Really?" Logan said, not listening. "Who was the third? Parker? Angel? Jake? Krycek? Anakin?" He watched her face for a reaction as he said each name.

Rory swallowed, and her face visibly heated a bit at Anakin's name - enough that anyone who knew her well would probably notice.

"Forget I said anything. It's not important. Are you going to run for office?" she asked, grasping for a way to distract him.

"What's up with Anakin?" Logan frowned.

"He's home in Coruscant right now," Rory supplied helpfully.

"Yeah? Where's Coruscant?" Logan asked.

"His home galaxy," Rory shrugged. "Far, far away, from what he's told me."

"You guys talk a lot?" Logan asked.

"Yes. We're friends," Rory said quietly. "You know that."

"Then what's the big secret?" Logan asked.

"There's no secret," Rory shrugged nervously. "Nothing you need to worry about, nothing involving you, nothing anyone did to you, or anything at all."

Rory belatedly realized she might have overcompensated a bit, there.

Logan raised his eyebrows. "Did Anakin do something to me?" he asked.

"Um, no?" Rory lied.

Logan sighed. "Let me rephrase. What did Anakin do to me?"

Logan stared at Rory, vaguely aware that people were chattering nearby. "Say that again," he said in a low voice, "because I think I heard you wrong."

Rory sighed. "Anakin tweaked your mind a little so that you would believe us that morning when you found me in his room. Because it was the truth, that nothing had happened, and you weren't believing us."

"Let's take a moment," Logan said, holding up the index fingers on both hands, "and consider all the things wrong with that statement." He paused. "No, let's skip right to the part where Anakin messed with my mind." His voice rose.

"You wouldn't listen," Rory insisted, her own voice staying quiet and shaky. "I told him afterwards that I thought it was wrong, but can you blame him? Someone could have gotten hurt."

"Oh, I see," Logan said in an icy voice. "I'm so violent that the only way to keep me from hurting people is to brainwash me. What's next? Tranquiliers? Shock collar? Why not just take me out to the backyard and shoot me in the head? Clearly I'm too dangerous to live."
