Which meant election promises and posters.






Vote Elizabeth, Junior Council Rep

I promise to:
*Maintain a good relationship with the faculty
*Ensure a positive and welcoming environment for all students
*Be honest and always listen to what YOU want



Having plastered them all around the dorms, from the gym to the top floor common room (via the shooting range), she settled into the common room with her palm pilot, a notebook and lists. If she was going to run, she was going to do it properly. And hiding away in her room certainly wasn't the way to go about it.

Elizabeth nods. "Do we even have three in the freshman class now?" she asks. "None of the sophomores seemed to have been interested either, and Angel and Cal's posters? Sneaking suspicion that they weren't put up by them!"

"No sophomores are interested?" Peter asked. "I'm actually kind of proud of my classes apparent lack of caring about student government. It's nice to see that they can be united on that front."

Angela snorts. "Yeah, but at this school? I would totally believe they're going to draft people if nobody volunteers. They have some freaky ideas of punishment. You guys should have a class meeting and draw straws or something."

"I'm just glad the rest of my class is all into it, 'cause I would never run. No offense, Elizabeth."

Elizabeth shrugs. "None taken. Getting actually involved in politics isn't for everyone, I know that. As long as you vote, I won't bug you about it."

"See, this is where I should give this motivational speech about how decisions are made by those who turn up and people need to vote. And how student government is just a precurser to the real world, where 18 to 24 year-olds represent 33% of the population, but they only account for 7% of the voters.

But it's a Saturday, and I can't be bothered."

"I don't know if I'm impressed or scared that you knew all that off the top of your head," Peter said.

Elizabeth laughed. "I know far too much useless information," she said. "Most of it as random as hell, but it occasionally comes in useful."

"Like, she wished me merry christmas in Russian," Angela says. "Which was cool."

"Really?" Peter looked impressed. "I speak some Gibberish, but I'm not fluent in anything else. Well, English. Of course."

"My grandmother was Russian," Elizabeth explained again. "So, it's not quite as random as it could be."

"I can wish you a lot more than merry christmas is Russian," Elizabeth grins. "Ya horosho vladeyu russkim. Ya govoryu po-anglijski, po-frantzuzski, po-ispanski, po-nemetzki, po-russkim.".

Angela blinks. "I'm going to guess that was ... something something English, something-French, something-Spanish, something-something-something Russian."

"Languages are so not my subject. Wish they were."

"Same here. I'm only good with languages in my dreams," Peter said, feeling slightly inferior.

"Weird you'd say that -- the language professor here calls himself Dream," Angela says with a shrug. "I think he's kind of creepy. Supposedly he can turn people into cats and stuff. But he might just be this self-important Goth with a rich fantasy life."

"I bet he's a pothead. I've actually met someone like that before. He was really kind of strange," Peter punned even though nobody in the room would get it.

Elizabeth grins and nods. "You were right, with the something-something being something-German," she laughs. "Languages are my subject. As you might be able to tell."

"I'm impressed. One language is about all I can handle. I mean, I took French, but I didn't get much past "Je m'appelle Angelique, Comment ca va?"

"Je m'appelle Elizabeth. Je ne fais pas si mauvais, merci pour demander. Vous?" She just grins.

"I'm a big fan of both useless information and statistics. But I'm man enough to admit that I get a little scared inside when those two things are brought together with a lesson involved. It's like a bizarre after-school special. Before school starts." Peter stopped talking for a moment. "Which really makes it random, I suppose."

Elizabeth just laughed, her eyes dancing. "I promise not to start on any sort of pre-school special lesson in any subject, with or without statistics," she said.

"Put that on your posters and you'll win in a landslide," Peter said.

She nodded. "Good advice. Either that, or I use it as some sort of threat. Vote for me, else it's a lecture on, I don't know, congregating Russian verbs or voting trends since the end of World War 2."

"You see? Just with that, I'm motivated to get out and vote," Peter smirked. "You're a natural leader."

"Believe it or not, I actually get told that a fair amount," Elizabeth grinned. "And I'm really thinking we should change the subjct away from politics, else I'm going to start scaring people."
