Gym

Angel was down in the gym. He'd already had Self Defense class that day, but right now he felt like there was no such thing as too much practice.

He went through some drills of his own, keeping his eye on the door so he could stop once Molly arrived.

[ooc: He's here for Molly, but anybody could use the gym. Molly thread is NFB.]

"Nothing wrong with that," Angel said. "If you can hit a vamp away from you, or into the path of somebody who can kill it, you still helped out the team."

"Yes," Molly nodded, "but I'd much rather help get rid of them than shift them over for someone else to kill." She took the stake in both hands and held it out to him. "So, can you show me how to use this before I try?"

"Love to." Angel took the stake from her. He flipped it around to hold it properly. He moved his hand to demonstrate. "This is the best way. See how I can attack front, back, and side if I hold it like this? It's also the most powerful. I can put the full force of my body into the blow."

Angel swung his body and arm to the side as though attacking an unseen vampire.

Molly nodded as she mimicked his movements with her empty hand. "That's very different from how I normally fight. Am I doing it right?"

"You're used to punching, right?" Angel said. He mimed a punch in the air. "Punches go forward. The energy travels through your body and out through your fist. With staking you're channeling it into your weapon."

Molly nodded and then mimed an uppercut. "I'm usually coming at the bad guy from below though. Straight arm punches are usually for walls and other immovable objects." She grinned. "I've just got to remember to move my arm a different way." She mimed the stabbing motion he showed her originally.

Angel watched as she moved. "Hang on, lemme show you something."

He stood beside her and did the same punch she did, with his arm out and doing most of the movement. "See that? When you move that way, what's doing the work?"

Molly watched him and then repeated her own motion. "My arm?"

"Exactly," Angel said. "Which is nice, because we've got strong arms. But our bodies are stronger. Watch this."

Angel adjusted his stance so that, instead of Molly's splay-legged one, his feet were about shoulder width apart. He brought his arm in so that his fist was kept close to his chest.

Moving slowly so Molly could see, he bent his knees, turned, and punched an uppercut where his arm stayed right up against his chest until the very last moment.

"See how that's different?"

Molly watched him and nodded. "Not so flaily." She grinned.

She adjusted her own stance to match his and mimicked the punch he made. "Like that?" She smiled up at him.

"Much better," Angel said. He did the motion again, speeding it up a little so she could see how that looked. "See? This way you're taking all that power in your body and channeling it to your fist. The other way all you had was your arm. Nice, but could be better."

Molly repeated the movement slowly a few times before also increasing the speed of her punch. "Okay, I can feel the difference. I don't know if I can train myself to do it by Friday, but I think I can get it eventually."

"We can practice punching after Friday too," Angel said. Reminded, he took hold of the stake again. "Okay. With this we're going in a different direction. Not really a punch. More like a jab."

Angel demostrated the sharp downward stab of staking somebody.

Once again, Molly copied his movements as she watched him demonstrate. She tried to keep her stance contained like he'd shown her for punching. "Okay, that seems easy enough. Hopefully having the weapon in my hand will remind me to stab instead of punch." She grinned.

"Pointy end goes that way," Angel said, miming the direction. He then brought his arm across his chest. "Now if we're getting fancy, you can do the opposite of what I showed you with the punch."

He demonstrated. "Same idea of taking your body's energy, just sending it in the opposite direction."

"Pointy end goes in the bad guy. Check," Molly snickered. She copied his movements again.

"Okay, I think I got it. I'll keep practicing when I can. I'm just glad these vampires aren't like the one I met back home. He couldn't be killed with a stake."

Angel looked interested. "What kind of vamp was that?"

Molly shrugged, "He just looked like a normal kid to me. I didn't even know he was a vampire until after he was dead because I was asleep." She made a face at that. "But, my friend Nico put her staff through his chest and it didn't kill him. He told her he could only be killed by sunlight."

"Different dimension," Angel guessed. "Did you try cutting off his head?"

Molly shook her head. "Chase said the guy told them he could only be killed by sunlight, but then he tried to bite Karolina and got burned up because she's an alien whose powers get stronger with sunlight."

Angel made a face. "That has got to taste bad. And I've accidentally drunk demon."

Molly made a face too. "Ick. That does sound bad."

"Wouldn't recommend it," Angel said. "Okay, what else are you going out with? Just stakes?"

Molly nodded. "I've never used a real gun. I have used toy guns, like my marshmallow blasters, but in an actual fight I'd rather use my fists," she pointed to the stake, "or that now."

"Always better to go with what you're comfortable with," Angel said. "Bring some crosses and holy water too. Won't kill a vamp, but can surprise one. Maybe even slow 'em down a little."
