Outside Room 238, After Fourth Period

Sam knocked on the door, ready to help set up for that evening. After all, they needed somewhere to store the extra party snacks, right?

She looked at her To Do list:

Weapons Drop Off/Pick Up
First Aid/Medical Area
Comms
--Laptops
--Cell Phones
--Ear Pieces

Time to get to work.

Janet flushed. Underage. "Her name is Callisto."

She moved to the best position to let Hawkeye work. But she was there if he needed assistance.

"Right, Callisto. Stay put. Try to breathe normally." He pulled out his stethescope and listened. It wasn't that hard, from the look of the wound, and her difficulty breathing, to tell what was going on. "It won't do much good because you've got air in your chest cavity, but try anyway or your body will kick up more of a stink." He took a closer look. "You really don't want to annoy your body any more than you have tonight. Bodies have a tendency to turn around and come back after you with a vengeance when you're not looking, and I don't just mean in the zombie sense." He frowned. "Okay Doctor Lilliput," he said to Janet, tossing her his kit with one hand. "I need a chest tube, the one with the plastic valve. There's too much air in there. We need to get it out."

Breathe. Wheeze. Cough.

Janet ignored the 'Doctor Lilliput' comment. She was fairly sure she'd grown an inch recently. She caught the bag easily, then opened it up and fished around until she found the chest tube. And of course she made sure it had a plastic valve.

She held it out to Hawkeye. "Need anything else?" she asked.

He glanced over at some of the other kids who looked worse for wear. "If you're so sure of your skills, go check on one of the others." He went to turn back, then called to her. "Wait." He wasn't sure if he wanted to know this or not because of the implications, but as a doctor he had to know. "Did you give her any pain medication?"

Janet shook her head. "I didn't have time to before you arrived." She smiled tightly. "And I don't have anything stronger than ibuprofin, of course."

Of course, she was lying about that, but she could tell a damn good lie when she had to.

He nodded and turned his attention back to Callisto. "Callisto, I'm going to give you something to relax. It's not going to knock you out, but it should take the edge off what I'm about to do. It doesn't sound good, but it'll relieve the pressure in your chest."

Callisto nodded, and despite the fact she couldn't breathe managed to look far less worried than the vampire sitting across the room.

"Don't worry, I've done this procedure plenty of times. You'd be surprised how easily the lung can collapse under pressure." He filled the syringe and injected it. "It happens to some people without them even trying. They can just be sitting there and pop, collapsed lung. Mind you, whatever kind of mess you got yourself into wasn't just sitting there." He smiled a little. "But I'll lecture you about that later. Let's get this cleared up first."

He fell silent as he went through the procedure of getting a clear path for the tube, inserting it, making sure it wasn't blocked and then packing the wound around the tube. "Okay, this is going to feel a little strange, but it should help you breathe." He released the valve and tilted his head down to hear whether it was working. The quiet hiss of air being released could be heard. He smiled.

Callisto stopped wheezing and started breathing a bit more normally again as she felt the pressure in her chest decrease, hardly the great big gulps of oxygen she wanted, but breathing was breathing.

Hawkeye monitored the pressure release. "This needs to stay in all night, so no going to join that party that was down the hall."

Callisto shot Hawkeye a Look.

"I know you kids and your dancing and partying habits. From the angle of that wound, I'd wager a guess that you were jiggling around after you were stabbed too."

"There were people trying to kill us," Callisto pauded to regain her breath. "Kinda a bad idea to stop moving."

"Movement usually comes with people trying to kill you, yes, unless they succeed." He placed a hand on her arm. "Take it easy. Try breathing normally and don't move. I'm not going far and I'll be back."

Angel came over (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhighdorms/444169.html?thread=19757577#t19757577). He was still wearing his torn and bloody shirt. He also looked like he was standing via sheer force of will. However it didn't look like a good idea to question said will at the moment.

"I don't know whether you were the ringleader of this little social event, but you're here and I want answers. What the hell happened?"

Re: Afterwards - Medical Attention

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-02-04 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Angel was quiet for a moment. If he looked like someone paying extremely close attention to the sound of someone breathing, that would be because he was. If he also looked like someone who only spoke to Hawkeye because the sound he heard met with his approval, that would also be true.

"Vampires. Least ten that I know of."

"Vampires. Of course." He knew who Angel was. There was a whole thick file on him in the office. "Then the question that remains, were you ambushed or did you and this merry band of misfits go looking for trouble?"

Re: Afterwards - Medical Attention

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-02-04 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
"I went looking for trouble," Angel said. He looked Hawkeye right in the eyes as he spoke.

"And you took a bunch of kids with you. Kids that got hurt. Kids who probably think that playing soldier is *fun*."

Re: Afterwards - Medical Attention

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-02-04 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I did not," Angel said. "I took those with me who knew what they were getting into. Who knew this wasn't a game. I don't take people out to die. I've killed enough already."

Re: Afterwards - Medical Attention

[identity profile] drywitmartini.livejournal.com 2006-02-04 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Hawkeye sighed. "And I've seen enough innocent kids die." He put his hands on his hips and looked around. "For once, I can't think of what to say." He shrugged. "On the one hand, you've got vampires who, from what I understand, prey on the innocent and need to be stopped. On the other hand, you've got a bunch of untrained, inexperienced teenagers trying to take up arms." He didn't know what to say. He was furious at the thought of these kids going looking for trouble. But then there were adults who refused to do anything about a very real threat that couldn't logically be explained.

Re: Afterwards - Medical Attention

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-02-04 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Angel shook his head. "Not untrained. Not inexperienced. We took a beating, but I would have any of them at my back any day. The town's also at least nine vampires short. Maybe more."

"I'm assuming that's good for a night's work. We don't have vampires where I come from. Must be something in the water supply."
