First Floor Lobby [Friday Night]
It's been a quiet day and Fraser's very grateful for that. This time, last week, there was snow and power outages and a foul mouthed firefighter standing next to him.
This week, the lobby is quiet. He's taken to reading one of his borrowed library books when...
A student. Just one student whizzing by and Fraser returns to his book.
Another student. And two more. Fraser eyes them curiously and wonders if there was a school event that he'd missed the memo on.
After several other students exit the dormitory, Fraser frowns and puts the book down.
Something was up.

"Party?" Fraser frowns and glances upwards. "Where is this party occurring?"

And not just because he looked better smiling."Common room; it's Logan's 'Welcome To Dorm Life, Spoiled Rich Boy' party," Xander replies smoothishly. "It's all under control and admin-approved; it was even on the announcements this morning. Just a little busy for my brain right now."

Outside. Shit. Um. To Fraser, he answers, "They were saying they needed to make a food run when I was up there - bunch of people took off to go to the pastry place, I think, and somebody else was going for drinks."
His eyes are, possibly, drawn like a compass needle to the hypnotic movement of the Hat.

Dief takes that moment to wake up and trot out to where Xander, Fraser and Faithful are standing. Noticing the cat, he lowers himself to the ground to watch Faithful.
Gesturing with the hat, Fraser points upwards. "They didn't acquire enough food for their party in advance? How much are people eating?"

Xander follows the movement of the
whoa, hi, arm in a uniformHat, staring upwards."I think they just didn't figure on Logan being as popular a guy as he is. Plus, first free weekend after a big monster attack, everybody wants to let down their hair and relax."

He moves it around to see what happens.
Dief inches closer to Faithful.

armHat, while his mouth works at making words come out. It's not that words don't appear; there's always plenty of those. It's just that they're notusuallyalways accompanied by sense. Which sort of makes Faithful right, but those words will come out of Xander's mouth about when Hell freezes over."That's... a really nice hat. Do they issue those when you get the Mountie job, or do they make you buy your own?"

He hissed at the wolf. "Back off, fluffy."

In response to the hiss, Dief growls quietly.

He takes it gingerly from the Mountie's hand and turns it over in his own. "Cool. Never been much of a hat man myself - tend to smoosh my hair. But never let it be said that I can't appreciate a fine hat on another man's head."

"I doubt this hat would smush your hair," Fraser says, smiling. He points to his own hair. "Mine's not flattened, is it? And feel free to be honest."

He looks up at the smiling Mountie. And momentarily wonders what the question was. "No, you seem to have smoosh-proof hair," he answers after a second. "My ex-roomie's the same way; you could probably drop an anvil on his head and not damage the 'do."

He places it carefully on on his head, though he still manages to knock Faithful's tail in the process.

Fraser steps back and eyes the hat on Xander's head. It's slightly crooked. So, to correct that, Fraser reaches out and adjuts the hat on Xander's head, making it straight and exactly perpendicular to the floor.
"That looks very good on you." Fraser nods. "You've never worn a hat such as this before?"
no subject
"An official law-enforcement type hat? Um, that'd be no. Various fine instant dining establishments, yes, which are definite hair-smushers. In fact I kind of suspect they make them that way on purpose, so their employees stay dateless and depressed and more willing to work in minimum wage hell, and -- er. It looks good?"
