2nd Floor Common Room [Wednesday After Classes]

A very bored and still slightly emo Bridge was sitting crosslegged on the floor in the middle of the common room, staring intently at the concentration aide that Anakin had given him. Every once and a while, the sand kinda... moves... but beyond that, he's not having much success.

*Hamlet really had no reason for being on the second floor at this time of night, since his room was up on the sixth, but things in Fandom rarely need reasons for happening. Seeing a light still on in the common room and hearing voices wafting out of it, he stuck his head in to see what was going on. And blinked.*

Are you all playing with a sandbox?

"Yes." Parker reaches over, and shakes the box, then puts it back down. "Remote control. I use my brain to move my fingers to move the sand. Yay." She folded her hands and rested her chin on them, then smirked up at Bridge. "Works until it decides it likes me, anyway."

Anakin scowled at Parker. "That's cheating."

He raised his hand and put Bridge's smile back into the sand, then turned to Hamlet with a grin. "Would you believe that it's special sand?"

*Hamlet raises an eyebrow and stares at the sand.*

And what makes this sand so "special"? Is it enchanted? Has it been visited by a cat?

Parker looked over her shoulder at Anakin. "Is this the stuff you trained on?" Looking back at Hamlet, she added, "They can both make it move by thinking at it. I have to be more brutal and direct."

"When we're little, yeah, this is a concentration aid. Helps you focus," he said. The sand made rippling waves. "Plus? fun to play with."

He smiled. "We move on to other stuff, too. Rocks." He made a face. "A lot of rocks."

He crossed his legs at the ankle and looked at Hamlet. "Long time since I've seen you around. How have you been?"

Interesting. I must admit, otherworldly powers still surprise me, but I am curious about how others can manipulate them.

I have been ill. I spent most of the last week in my room recuperating and fending off the attacks of a robot rabbit demanding I make him pie.

Anakin smiled and stood up. "It's really good to see you," he said to Hamlet. "But I'm going to head up to my room and try to get some sleep." He waved his hand and made the sand wave, too.

Because he's a show-off.

"Have a good evening, everyone."

"Smartass!" Parker called after him, then went back to grumbling. "Bridge, show me how to do this. What am I supposed to do? What helps?"

*Hamlet watches Bridge and Parker, trying to see just what makes this sand so special. He wonders if they really can make pictures draw themselves in the sand, but supposes that anything is possible at this school.*

Parker closes her eyes, and tries to be some kind of calm. Her version of it, anyway.

She concentrates on the image of a smiling face, and then on putting that face on the sand....

*Hamlet blinks a few times, unsure that he really saw the sand move.*

Did Parker do that? I didn't think it was possible for normal people to be able to learn mental control of objects.

Parker's eyes snapped open. "What? What, it worked? And I missed it? Damn!"

*Hamlet doesn't stick out his tongue back at Bridge. He has more emo dignity than that.*

Despite you being from the future, having these mind abilities, needing to think upside-down, being completely at ease with all the utterly bizarre things that go on here... you might be normal. Frankly it's hard to tell what the baseline for "normal" even is at this school.

"I did it and I missed it." Parker is still pouting. "It's just because I'm tired, you know. I could *so* do this if I was rested." She flashes Bridge a grin, then yawns at Hamlet. "Right. Time to go to bed. Sleep well, guys."

She pulls herself up on the couch, twists around, then flips over the back, and wanders back to her room.

*Hamlet flips up to the clock on the wall and notes just how late it is an how many floors he has to climb up to his room.*

I think that I should be following Parker's example. I'll leave you and your special sand to commune with each other. Good night.

*He makes his way out of the common room and makes his way towards the stairs. Why didn't the school designer install elevators in this place?*
