Outside the dorms, Tuesday night
After leaving Zhaan's, Aeryn just starts walking and stops as soon as she realizes she's gone directly to the dorms. She didn't mean to, but she just sort of ended up here. Which is probably a mistake, since she doesn't really want to deal with anyone at the moment. Security might escort her out, anyway. To be honest, she doesn't know why she doesn't even just turn back at the gates.

For a minute, he thinks it's one of those crappy practical jokes. But, from the times he's met Zhaan, he knows she wouldn't do that.
As soon as he can pull on his shoes, which is rather difficult with cuts on his feet and a bandaged hand, he's limping out the door, out of the dorms and towards Zhaan's shop.
He's not even thinking of the possibility that she's back for real. Not even thinking...

She's standing there in her uniform with dried blood on her hands and stiff movements and the same bag she left with, and she's not going anywhere.

"Stupid shoes, stupid feet, stupid bandages that don't help," he grumbles.
So, when he finally stops cursing and looks up, he does see her...and he knows that it's true. She's there, she's alive and she's there.
And right now, John feels light headed. "Are you real?" John asks carefully.

Especially when she looks him over and has to ask, "What happened?" Two weeks. She can't be gone two frelling weeks without something happening.

"That makes me sound like some consolation prize. A choice you didn't want but had to take," John says quietly.

Calm now, she asks, "Or are you going to blow that off again like it's nothing?"

So, he settles for turning sideways and kicking a rock. Which hurts. "Goddammit," he snaps. "Goddammit. You were gone. You have been gone. You left and you were gone and you didn't say goodbye and I've been living with that for two weeks now. Two miserable, fricking weeks. Something like that...it's not easy for someone like me, okay? Losing you and now you're back? I don't know how I'm supposed to feel!"
