Nadia shrugged slightly and said "I'm sixteen," because she really wasn't entirely certain which birthday it actually was, but she was pretty certain she'd been around for about sixteen years.

Broots shrugged. "It's one of the many good luck things. Some people pull ear-lobes instead." He rubbed at his ear at the memory. "Except last year my Dad tugged my sister's earring out of her ear by accident and she had to go to the hospital on her birthday." He blinked. "There's a reason I don't talk much."
