Gym Open Early

According to the information packet the gym facilities were for everyone. Elle rolled out of bed, washed her face and put her hair into a ponytail and went down to get some quality time with the StairMaster before the crowd came in.

The gym did get crowded, right?

"There might have been a repeat from last week?" He said sheepishly.

Rory sighed. "And you're still just going to be just friends?"

"Yeah?" The sheepish look didn't go away and there might be some added guilt there too.

She sighed again. "Okay, far be it for me to be pushy or nosy or anything? But you guys have to figure this out. Speaking from experience. Or else someone's going to get hurt."

"Someone's going to get hurt either way," Cameron replied, scowling at the mat. "If not now, then in a year when I leave for the Academy but I'm sure I'll screw it up sooner."

"Okay, you know what a good friend of mine told me awhile ago when I was going through something kind of like this?" Rory said, looking at him. "Don't you think that the time between now and next year would be worth it either way? Yeah, it might hurt in the end, but wouldn't you want to be happy in the interim?"

Cameron went quiet and pushed away the image that popped up in his head. That wasn't real, he knew that now. "Yes. No. I honestly don't know right now. Isn't that cold feet thing only supposed to happen when you're getting married?"

Rory almost started laughing.

"I think the terminology is a marriage thing, but the feeling's the same," she said, shrugging. "I know what it's like, though. Been in...pretty much this same position before."

"What did you end up doing?" Cameron asked carefully. "You don't have to answer if you don't want to."

"I kissed him, got cold feet and ran away," she said quietly. "And then we didn't talk about it until like...four or five months later. We repressed it, pretended it didn't happen. And in the end, more people than me and Jess ended up hurt."

Rory realized that yes, she was leaving out a kind of vital part of the story. But the essentials were what Cameron needed to hear.

"I'm sorry," Cameron said because he wasn't sure how to respond to that. "We're not exactly denying and I didn't run off, if that helps?"

Rory shook her head. "My point is that you need to figure out where you two stand. Because we never talked about it, which is why everything was such a mess. You guys are still better off than I was, but there might be more hurt feelings than you and her in all of this. Just saying."

That just confused Cameron. "You mean beside Logan and Blair?"

"You never know," she said, shrugging.

She sighed. "Seriously, ignore me if I'm out of line or whatever. It's totally none of my business. It's just...if Logan finds out again? And you guys still haven't figured out what this whole thing is? You have a sister, right? Imagine if someone kissed her twice without making any kind of commitment or figuring it out, or whatever. You'd be mad, right?"

"Yeah," Cameron grumbled and kicked with his heel at the mat. "We said we're sticking to being friends so that's what we're going to do."

"Yeah, I was kinda starting to find that out," Cameron sighed and rubbed his forehead.

"If you need support or help or anything, let me know," she said, biting her lip. "Since...I actually relate even better than what I told you, but I'd rather not get into it."
