Logan was in the kitchen. Cooking. Because when you were in a kitchen, working with a blender, you could call it cooking. Even if the result was more beverage-y than food-y. It was practically summer, anyway. Perfect time for a cold iced drink. With tequila.

The television was playing "Annie".

"Congratulations on the senior thing," Tyler said. "And I'm guessing you aren't kidding about being a demon. What's that like?"

"Dark, evil, scary," Bel said. "But I've kinda left that all behind me now. Turned over a new leaf, as they say."

"Oh?" Tyler said, slightly disappointed. "Met a guy in the record store yesterday who said he'd ggiven up being a hit man for love. That your story too?"

Bel laughed a little. "Pretty much, cliche as it sounds."

"I hope the girls here are worth it," Tyler said, shrugging and cracking a half-smile. "The ones I've talked to seem pretty tough."

"Half of them can kick your ass," Bel said with a grin.

"I kind of got that in the gym yesterday," Tyler said with a nod. "Big chanmge from back home."

Though, it occured to him, he had never fought Marla. At least not that way.

"So what's yours like?"

"She's beautiful," Bel said, smiling at the thought. "I'm teaching her how to fight. She's not that strong yet, but her spirit is pretty damn tough. She wants to be able to defend herself so I'm training her in unarmed combat and sword fighting."

"Sounds like a lovely person," Tyler said. "Unarmed combat is kind of a specialty of mine. I haven't done anything with swords, though. Mostly I play with stuff that blows up."

"Really?" Bel said. "We may have to spar some time. As for blowing stuff up, that's a specialty of mine." He conjured a small ball of flame in his hand, then clapped it out.

"That is the coolest thing I've seen here," Tyler said, meaning it. "Can you do that whenever you want?"

As an afterthought, he added, "And we should definitely spar."

"Yeah, I can throw it, too," Bel said. "Comes with the demon package."

"Very cool," Tyler said. "I can imagine situations where that would be exactly what you need."

"What else comes with the demon package?"

"Strength mainly, and teleportation." Okay, so maybe he was bragging a little.

"Not bad. But if I sparred with you, how would I not get my ass kicked?" Tyler wondered aloud.

He ran a hand through his hair. "But sometimes you learn more from losing."

"Lay down ground rules," Bel said. "No fireballs, no shimmering -- that's what we call the teleportation. I won't cheat." He grinned. "Much."

"Works for me," Tyler said. "I also don't cheat. Much."

"Sounds like we'd have a fun time," Bel said.
