2nd Floor Common Room, Thursday Afternoon

Logan was in the kitchen. Cooking. Because when you were in a kitchen, working with a blender, you could call it cooking. Even if the result was more beverage-y than food-y. It was practically summer, anyway. Perfect time for a cold iced drink. With tequila.

The television was playing "Annie".

"Well, shit." Parker watched him drink, and closed her eyes, shaking her head. "Thus, roadtrip, I'm guessing."

"Nah, that was planned," Logan said. "Didn't really have a reason to go back to Neptune anyway."

Parker crossed her arms, then took a sip of her drink, wincing at its strength. "Anything I can do, short of convincing Lily Kane to show up on your father's doorstep and scare the crap out of him?"

Logan laughed. "That'd be awesome. But no, the issue's been dealt with. Got that bit of news last night."

And oh, that's not a happy laugh. Parker tensed again. "How?"

Logan grinned. "He was found dead in his hotel room of natural causes."

Parker flinched. "And what did the coroner's office consider natural causes?"

Logan shrugged. "I don't know what the coroner's office said. But I think it's perfectly natural for someone to put two bullets into his head."

Fuck. Parker stayed silent for several long minutes, then said, "I see." She took a swig from the drink he'd given her, then carefully said, "Any suspects?"

Logan shook his head. "Not yet. The sheriff is investigating." He gave a small snort at the thought of that sheriff.

"Not much faith in the authorities of Neptune, I take it. I think V mentioned them once, way back." She let out a slow breath. 'I'm sorry' seems trite, especially since from what she's heard, Aaron Echolls was just reaping karmic payback. But still. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

Logan shook his head. "I'm fine. But thanks." He gave her what was almost a genuine smile.

"You're not. But I won't push. This time." She gave him an almost-smile in return. "You'll write while you're out there, right? It doesn't have to be to me, obviously. I'd just like to hear through the grapevine that you're okay, and not from Access Hollywood that you're not."

Logan sighed. "Yes, Maureen, I'll keep in touch. I gotta get updates on you guys, too."

Parker faked a *thwap* at his arm that came nowhere near connecting. Allowances are made on days your parents die, all the way down the line. "Fine. You'll get details on the next incursion if you want them. As well as whether the Constable and Principal Washburn get together. I'm thinking with a little judicious pushing, we could have a nice little soap opera to distract them with, thus allowing the students a freer rein this summer."

Logan nodded approvingly. "Good plan. And if you guys need anything, let me know. I might stop back for a visit at some point. Make sure Cam's behaving himself."

Parker grinned. "Good. I have no idea what's going on there, but it's fun to watch Cam squirm. Damn, I wish you were going to be here this weekend-- I was hoping to get a party going for the seniors. Now I'll have to call it the Logan Echolls Memorial Blow-Out. Since you'll be on the road outta here."

"Gah, you make it sound like I'm dead," Logan said, with a dismissive wave. "I could donate a bit to the party, though. I don't think I can fit all my alcohol in the car."

"That works. The Echolls Ever After Party. Zombie Party? Heh. The Logan Whatever I'm Outta Here Party." She toasted him with her glass. "Write when you get surf."

Logan clinked his glass against hers. "Let me know what the next monster invasion is."
