The Gym - Late Tuesday Morning

Peter hadn't gone to the gym yesterday, but his conscience wouldn't let him miss two days in a row. So after rummaging through cereals in the common room to find one marginally less pastel than the rest, he headed downstairs.

Vaguely surprised that no one else was already there, Peter started his warmup then moved onto the heavy bag. Because one day, he wasn't going to lose an unarmed sparring match.

"Well, good for you," Cally said, smiling at the bow. "I know I'd make sure to hit the frakker too. If I had a sister for it to insult, that is." She bowed in return. "Hi, I'm Cally. You must be new here."

"One has to keep an eye out for these things." Peter grinned at the bow - that made a total of three people who had responded in kind, he thought. "Nice to meet you Cally. I'm Peter Pevensie. You must be a returning student if you can tell I'm new."

"Well, returning would imply I went somewhere. I'm more of a stuck here 'til I graduate student." Cally laughed quietly. "Well, Peter, it's nice to meet you too. You fitting in okay?"

"Sure, but it's also better than going around calling all the ladies at the school 'old.' I can't see that as being particularly tactful," Peter winked. "On one hand, I seem to have scared my roommate off, but on the other, I've not been turned into anything either animal or vegetable yet. So I'm good."

"Well, that's cause the animal-turning teacher left," Cally said with a nod. "So you're safe. Especially since your name isn't John Crichton." Cally nodded at the punching bag. "Want me to hold it for you? It'll swing around less."

"Ah, well, and here I was thinking that I'd accomplished a feat. You've dashed my hopes, you know," Peter said, laughing. "And thank you, I'd appreciate it."

Cally braced herself against the punching bag, like the few times she'd done before. She really hoped Peter wasn't going to end up being Molly-strong. Walter-strong she could handle, but Molly-strong would make the bracing difficult.

"So, is your roommate new, too?"

Peter was most definitely not Molly-strong, and he was also pulling his punches until he was sure the smaller girl would be able to hold the bag.

He tried out a combination or two, then replied, "Yes, she is, her name's Ainsley Hayes. Bit of a shock at first to be expected to room with a lady, but I didn't think I was impolite."

"Oh, heh, yeah. I room with a guy too, actually," Cally said. "You certainly have a pretty strong punch, too. Are you training for the military or something?"

"It does seem to be simply accepted here so when in Rome and all," Peter shrugged. "In a manner of speaking, I am already part of a military. I'm a knight. What about you? Do you have aspirations in the military direction?"

"Sort of," Cally said. "I was going to join the Colonial Fleet for a few years. Be a Specialist, work on the Vipers, get the money to go to dental school. But that was before I came here."

"Coming here changed your plans? What do you want to do now? And not to bombard you with questions, but what's a Viper?"

"Oh, it's a spaceship. It's a fighter-craft, designed for both space and atmosphere use. I can show you the one on the roof sometime," Cally said. "I built it. Well, rebuilt it, actually." She then realized he had asked about other stuff, too.

"Oh, and yeah, moving changed things. Partially because I didn't really believe Earth existed before coming here.

"You must be extremely skilled to be able to do something like that. I'd love to see it. I read all the space comicbooks when I was little but didn't expect to ever actually see a spaceship," Peter said, smiling at her enthusiasm.

"Are you from a planet other than Earth then?"

"Yep," Cally said. "Me, D'Anna, and Anders are all from Caprica. At least, I think D'Anna is from Caprica. She's from one of the colonies, at least. We're out there somewhere," Cally gestured vaguely upwards.

Peter grasped onto the word he reognized. "Earth has colonies now? When did that happen?"

Cally laughed. "Er, other way around, I think," she said. "According to our big religion, Earth is the long lost thirteenth colony."

"Really?" Peter considered the implications of that statement as he continued to beat up the heavy bag. "I can see how finding out a myth is real might change your outlook a bit. So are you planning to stay on Earth instead of going back to the Colonies?"

"Yeah," Cally said, bracing the bag still. "Things home aren't that great, and things here are a lot nicer. The whole lack of spaceships to fix isn't a big problem, really."

"Especially since you built your own, eh?" Peter asked with a grin.

"Shall I hold the bag for you for a while now?"

"Oh, I'm not much of a fighter," Cally said. "I just come down and do a little muscle toning, that's all. Can't abuse my hands if I want to be able to do all the fiddly work." She smiled. "Thanks for the offer, though."

Peter looked at his hands which, beneath the tape, were definitely not designed for fiddly work. "I see what you mean," he said with a grin.

"So, you done with your exercises, Sir Peter?" Cally grinned. "You think the bag is sufficiently beaten for thinking about your sister wrongly?"

"I think it may be. You never can tell with bags like this," Peter said with a smile. "I do thank you, my Lady," Peter swept a bow, "for your assistance and conversation."
