Second Floor Common Room: Saturday Afternoon

Tired, Jack wandered into the common room in search of coffee. He hadn't gotten a heck of a lot of sleep last night.

Since the common room was empty, he appropriated both the couch with the best view of the TV and the remote control. Mister What was on again and he sprawled across the couch, watching it through half closed eyes. The show really was oddly fascinating.

"Yeah, that whole alternate timeline thing's never gonna stop being confusing." Bridge says with a shake of his head.

Xander nods. "Dawn says there's even a world without shrimp. Which...she had some valid points on why it might be cool for some people, but how do you get a timeline where shrimp randomly don't evolve?"

"Actually..." Bridge turns so that he's hanging upside down off the edge of the couch. "Give me a minute on that one."

Xander looks down at him. "Oh...kayyyyyyy..."

"Thinking position," Bridge explains.

"Mine usually involves some form of sugar."

"This gets all the blood rushing to your head. Good for thinking, really!"

"See, I've been tied up and hung upside down? And mostly I was only thinking 'HELP!' But maybe it's different when it's voluntary." Xander twists around and tries it.

Bridge looks over and grins at Xander. "It working?" He asks.

Xander considers. "Maybe they have really, really big cannibalistic lobsters, and they ate all the shrimp?"

"Lobsters are evil," Bridge notes.

"Well, they could be just hungry, not evil." Xander turns his upside-down head to the side to get a better look at Bridge. "Unless you've got, like, inside future cop information. Do the lobsters rise up and try to take over the world?"

"No," Bridge says. "Though some attacked the Terra Venture colony I think."

"Seriously?" Xander ponders this. "Real lobsters, or just aliens who kinda looked like lobsters?"

"Big alien lobsters," Bridge clarifies. "Bipedal."

"What is it with everything being bipedal? Your alien lobsters, your commanding officer... Does nobody take advantage of multiple limbs in the future, or is it all about the being taller?"

"I think it's the taller thing," Bridge says.

"Because that's gonna improve their chances at being an invading space force?" Xander shakes his head. Which, as it's upside down, makes him dizzy. "Evolution's weird."

"You're telling me," Bridge laughs, and then flips rightside up.

Xander tries that too - and his head spins. "Urrgh. Okay maybe better for thinking? But the after-effects are a doozy."
