Second Floor Common Room: Saturday Afternoon

Tired, Jack wandered into the common room in search of coffee. He hadn't gotten a heck of a lot of sleep last night.

Since the common room was empty, he appropriated both the couch with the best view of the TV and the remote control. Mister What was on again and he sprawled across the couch, watching it through half closed eyes. The show really was oddly fascinating.

"Thanks." Jack grinned happily, looking, for the merest of brief seconds, like a total dork.

"Me? Nothing as interesting as being a plant mage. Amnesia's a good a description as anything, but I'm missing a chunk of memories." He shrugged. "So, I don't really remember anything about being a student here. Before that I was in the fifty-first century, about three thousand years in the future from now."

Briar blinked a few times. Then a few times more. "Indoor plumbing is a new invention for me. Three thousand years?"

"Yeah, but we still have indoor plumbing," Jack replied with a grin. "So, you're from the past, then?"

"Pretty much. Also from a different world."

"Okay," Jack said with a laugh. "So between us we have nothing in common except that we're from nowhere around here."

"Pretty much, yeah." Briar shrugged.

"If you can make my plant happy, or tell me how to keep it happy, that'll be something else we'll have in common." Jack smiled at him. "As well as me owing you a favour."
