Squirrel campfire, Sunday night

Nadia's put together a small campfire and sits watching it. It's weird, since camp is pretty much the total opposite of the urban setting she grew up in, but sitting by a fire in the dark like this, without a television or anything around, makes her kind of miss Buenos Aires. Just give her a few less trees, a few more drunken people, and some trash on the ground, and she'd practically be home.

She's not sure how she feels about that.

Jamie is wandering around the campground when he spots his roomie and decides to check in on her.

"So? Still hate my guts? Because I do have an explanation."

Nadia blinked. Ohhhh yeah. She'd been angry at Jamie. "I didn't hate your guts before. But an explanation would be nice."

"Okay... I didn't actually walk by you five times trying to interrupt," Jamie explained. "There were five of me who just happened to walk by. And wave. I really wasn't trying to intrude. I didn't realize until after I had absorbed them. I'm very sorry about that."

Nadia smiled. "It's okay. I was pretty annoyed, but judging by how miserable you were the next day, I'd say you probably already learned a lesson from it." She shrugged carefully. "And when I stormed in on you I was actually more pissed at someone else. You were just kind of . . . there."

"I didn't cause any problems with Walter did I?" Jamie asked nervously. "Because I seem to remember a weird looking dog being set into the room."

"That'd be Pup. And no, you didn't cause any problems." All their problems were well established through no fault of Jamie's at all, after all. "I gather, from the radio that night, that you over extended your powers?"

Jamie nodded. "Yeah. I was bored and wanted to test to see how much of my ability I still had. Used to be I could do forty without breaking a sweat. Now... well I better keep it down to less than a dozen or so."

"Good idea." Nadia understood pushing your limits, though, so that was all the lecture he'd be getting from her. "Where were you last night, though? I wondered if you'd hooked up with a hot date, or something. You never came to the room."

Demyx let himself out of the A side of the Squirrel cabin, walking over to the campfire and taking a seat next to Nadia. "Hey, Nadia. Do you have a minute..?"

Nadia tilted her head. "Sure, what's up, Demyx?"

"I was just wondering...I know it's really hard on you to not be able to play your guitar. It'd be hard on me, too. That's why...I want to help, if you'll let me." Demyx smiled nervously.

Nadia had figured it'd be something like that. She wondered which of her friends had talked Demyx into this. She stared into the fire. "I . . . don't know." She sighed. "Nothing against you, or anything, but I . . . look, I've been through a lot this semester, and I'm not sure if I . . ."

Why was she making excuses? Dammit, as far as she could tell, Demyx's magic was nothing but helpful. It wasn't weak, she wasn't giving anything away, and it might get some people off her ass.

"I just. . . ." Stop it. "Yeah. If you think you're up to it, then yeah. That'd be . . . good."

"I'm pretty sure I'm up to it. I've had time to recover since the slumber party and it should be fine." He tried to sound confident, even if he wasn't entirely sure. Demyx worked with the water in the air, his sitar forming easily in his hands. He played to concentrate, the soft green glow that he'd summoned on the others slowly forming around Nadia this time, hovering for a few moments before absorbing into her.

His fingers went slack over the strings when he was finished, and he panted slightly. Okay, so...that was tougher than he'd thought.

Nadia shut her eyes as a sensation of warmth flowed into her, concentrating in her ribs, arm, and head, with flashes across her legs and wrists. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding as most of the pain she'd been dealing with all week faded away.

She blinked her eyes open and twisted cautiously. Okay, still a little tender through the ribs. She bent over and lifted the ends of her jeans to look at her legs. The handshaped bruises, which had been angry purple last time she looked, were a faded yellow-green.

"Wow." She glanced over at Demyx and frowned. "Hey, I thought you said you were up to it."

"I am. I was." Demyx smiled, his instrument fading out quickly. "I'm okay, really. Just took a little more than I expected, that's all. How do you feel?" That was what he was most concerned about, after all.

"Good evening campers." Pippi says coming out of the cabin with her Grandfather's coat on.

Walter finally found his way out to the bonfire, producing a bag of marshmallows, although not the graham crackers or chocolate.

"Snacks?"

"Ooo!" Nadia reached out a hand. "Sugar!"

Walter tossed a marshmallow at Pippi, pulled one out for himself, and handed Nadia the bag.

"Hello. Just out of curiousity, do we have any Americans here to teach us American campfire traditions?"

"What are those?" Demyx asked, feeling a little dizzy.

"I don't know. Who's on the other side of the cabin?" Nadia gave Demyx a look, then happily dug into the bag. "There are some Argentine street traditions involving fires . . . but they might not be the sort of thing we ought to get up to, right now."

"Marsh-mellows." Pippi said sitting next to Demyx pulling hers in half and offering him a bit. "They're delightful. And Paige is in our cabin. But she's asleep I think?"
