Stickbug Campfire - Tuesday Evening

Peter was definitely not going to give the impression he was staying away from his own cabin due to fear of possible reprisal from any events that might have occurred earlier in the day. So he made a fire in the Stickbugs' firepit and was poking at it perhaps just a bit more often than was necessary.

He sat close enough to the fire to be able to read his book by its light between pokes. He most definitely was not dumb enough to keep his whole attention on the book. Just because he didn't want to give the impression of hiding didn't mean he wasn't keeping an eye out for revenge-seekers.

"I am most well, thank you for asking. Would you like a seat?"

"Thanks!" Pippi took a seat next to Peter. "So did anything interesting happen today?"

"Well, we had to fight off badgers then pull drugged people out of the advancing tide in First Aid. Which was unexpected."

"Oh how exciting! One moment." she pulled a camcorder out of her backpack and started it up.

"We have to try these things out for the filmmaking class... Could I film you talking about your first first aid class?"

Peter may have looked distinctly uncomfortable. "Erm...what? That's a movie camera?"

"Oh yes, isn't it amazing." she swung it around and pointed it at Peter, holding it up at chest level and looking at the little fold out screen to line up the shot before turning her attention fully to him again and smiling.

A little red light glows on the side of the camera.

Peter cleared his throat. "Yes, well, there was a beach? And the tide was coming in? But there were sunbathers just sleeping and sleeping. And badgers were eating them. Which is odd really, because badgers usually only come out at night. They must have been awfully hungry. So we pulled the sunbathers out of the water before they drowned. Then, err, Briar said he thought the air was drugged. So we put masks on. And threw stones. At the badgers that is. To scare them away?"

Peter? Not so good with cameras. He looked at Pippi slightly pleadingly.

"But then we used this leaf that Briar had to wake the sunbathers up. And Seras called 911. Which is apparently what you do. And that was it?"

"That's brilliant!" Pippi said beeming at Peter and not at all turning off the camera, though she does seem to be moving it around. "I'm sure the sunbathers who survived were very grateful!"

"I'm not entirely sure they were real sunbathers," Peter said. "I really have no idea at all how the beach appeared in the classroom." He noticed the little red light still on the camera and asked "so, can you show me how that works?"

"Oh of course!" Pippi chirruped scooting closer to Peter and turning the camera so he could see.

She pointed the camcorder (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10071329&catid=22273&logon=&langid=EN) at the cabin and began showing him the various workings and features of the device.

"... And if you want to zoom in and out you roll this up or down."

Peter took the camera with the respect one might give a baby or a chest of treasure and turned it so he could look through the viewscreen.

"What I see through this is being recorded then?" he asked. "This is bloody brilliant." He pointed it at Pippi, "do tell about your day, Highness."

"Ah well first? I woke up. Which is always nice." Pippi said standing up so Peter could see the steadycam feature in action.

"Then I had coffee with my fellow ~~Secret~~ Squirrels around the campfire." Pippi moved around so she was between Peter and the cabin and started walking backwards so he'd follow her.

Peter got up rather unsteadily as he was completely focused on the camera instead the mechanics of standing. He took a step or two in Pippi's direction, then paused. Apparently fascinated by the zoom feature.

Pippi leaned against the wall of the cabin by a window.

"Then I had my first workshop where is was giving that lovely little device you have there. And after that I had lunch with Nadia in the Mess Hall, where they have this amazing thing that make whatever you want if you ask it nicely."

"A machine that you have to speak to kindly? That seems odd?" Peter said. He decided to see what would happen to the picture if he turned back towards the campfire. Taking very, very small steps, he turned in a half circle until he had the camera focused on the flames once more.

"Well, you don't have to say 'please' and 'thank you'. But you have to state clearly what you want and how you want it." she walked back up to him to look over his shoulder at the display.

"I should try that out tomorrow," Peter said. "Though I'm not sure how I'd like food that came from a machine." He looked back up at Pippi. "This may very well be the neatest piece of machinery I've ever seen. Thank you for showing it to me." He handed it back to her, again treating it with the caution of an expensive piece of crystal.

Pippi took the camera back and nodded.

"The pancakes it made weren't as good as mine of course. But they were quite good. ~~You're going to ask for Turkish Delight aren't you? You sick freak!~~"

"Never having had your pancakes, I can only take your word for it. Though the last time I questioned a lady's word, I was given cookies, so perhaps I should? ~~And I leave Turkish Delight to my traitor brother, thankyouverymuch~~."

"Come find me when we're back in the dorms and I'll make you some then." she grinned back.

"Definitely!" Peter said.
