Seahorse Campfire [Wednesday Evening]

It's been a good day.

He's been having a few of those lately and he's not one to ignore good days. He knows they can evaporate quickly and without warning.

So, he's enjoying the warm day outside. There's a cup of tea near his elbow and a smile on his face.

"I'm not very social," she tells him, and that's true.

"And you think I am?" All right, he is, but after saying that, he's interested in her answer.

"You've never seemed to have a problem with people," says Hermione matter-of-factly. "Look at how much attention you got when you were chosen for the Tournament. You're liked."

"And you're not?" Cedric frowns again. "You and Harry and Ron seemed pretty inseparable. And the other Weasley, what was her name? June?"

"Ginny," she corrects. "I'm not popular, but I have friends. I'm happy with that. It just doesn't make me good for party situations. I'm okay with that, too."

"You should come to one," he insists. "Even if it's not in my cabin. You can always talk to me, you know."

"Thanks," she says, kind of pleased by that. "Willow had a slumber party when we moved into the cabins. I went to that one. It's more my speed, I think."

"Please tell me you're not going to spend your whole term in the library."

[smartestone]

"I won't," she promises, neglecting to mention that she's been in there every day it's been open. She also doesn't mention the bookstore in town. "I've met several very nice people just by walking around."

"Really?" He smiles again. "Tell me who've you met and we can compare notes."

"Most recently I met Tyler and Anakin," she says. "Do you know them?"

"I believe I've met Tyler," Cedric says. "I've not yet met Anakin. He was there the other night though for your Jaye's party."

"He's very nice," she says, not asking if Anakin was shirtless at this party, too, because she doesn't want to know. The actual answer might scar her. "Mostly I've spoken with the other girls- and the boy- in my cabin."

"The boy?" Cedric quirks an eyebrow at her. "Really?"

"His name's Macbeth. We weren't really expecting him to be there, but he seems nice enough," she shrugs.

Smiling again, he says, "But he's not Harry or Ron or even...Viktor, is he?"

Hermione does blush a little at that. "No," she admits.

"Have you written to him? Viktor, I mean."

"No, not yet," she says. "I will. Maybe later."

"You can tell him I say hello," Cedric says. "Have you used your wand at all yet? Here, I mean."

Hermione has no idea how to tell Viktor that Cedric Diggory says hello. She'll deal with that later. "Just once," she admits. "Have you?"

"Just once," he says. "Did it...work the same way here as it did at Hogwarts?"

She nods. "It did for me..."

"It did for me as well," he says. "What did you use yours for, if I can ask?"

"I cleaned the pool," she admits shyly. "I don't know what happened in there except that it was bad, and it had to be fixed."
