Cameron was up early. If he was beating the bag with a lot of enthusiasm, then it was just because he was trying to warm up before Veronica got there. Yep, that was all there was to it.

Veronica finally stopped punching and gave Cameron a serious look.

"Don't make the same mistakes I made," she said. "I know it's hard to talk about what you went through, but don't risk losing someone you care about because they think you're keeping things from them."

This time he did lower his hands as he took in her words, not looking away.

"She's mad because I let her down. I promised I'd do better and I didn't because half of the time I try to talk to her, I say the wrong thing and piss her off," he paused and drew in a breath. "I've told her everything that happened to me about the Ori except one because I seriously can't find the words to explain that I got her killed."

"You didn't get her killed," Veronica said, her tone softer. "They made you think that, but it wasn't real. I know that doesn't make it any less painful, but she's okay and that's what matters."

Veronica had no clue who 'she' was, but in the grand scheme of things that didn't matter.

"All you can do is keep trying. I told you the other day that it takes two to maintain a relationship and it takes two to end one. I got away with keeping secrets from Logan for so long because he didn't seem to notice I was keeping them. And if he did, he didn't push me to tell him."

"I know," he briefly closed his eyes. "I'm just not sure how I can make her trust me again. I'm not even sure if she wants me to. I failed to meet up with her, but she didn't exactly come looking for me either."

"You can't make someone trust you, you have to earn it," Veronica said. "You're a good guy and you have good intentions. Prove to her that you're trustworthy and she'll trust you again."

"It's gonna take a while," he said and tilted his head. "You okay?"

"Yes it is, but if you want it, it's worth it," Veronica said.

She tilted her head back and smiled. "Yeah. I've had time to deal with my screw up and I know I can't change the past."

Cameron smiled back. "Good," he said and lightly tapped her on the arm with the pad, "because you're slacking off in the present and you can change that."

Veronica pouted playfully. "Haven't I done enough for one day? I haven't even had coffee yet."

"Coffee comes afterwards," he promised. "It's the reward for your hard work."

"Haven't I worked hard enough?" Veronica asked in a faux whiny tone.

Cameron sighed dramatically, "I suppose so."

Veronica grinned and started unwrapping her hands. "So I earned coffee?"

He laughed as he pulled off the pads. "Yes. You did pretty good."

"I had a good teacher."

"Now flattery will get you everywhere," he chuckled.

Veronica grinned. "Okay, so same time on Thursday?" she asked.

"Sounds good to me," he nodded. "I've got some more training to do so I'm going to stay for a while longer."

"Okay, I'll see you in class tomorrow," Veronica said, picking up her water bottle and waving to Cameron as she headed out.
