Bel was bored. He picked a floor at random (3rd) and claimed the couch in the common room, idly flipping through the channels on the TV. Oh, look. Celebrity poker.

"Do you need anything? I've got soup and crackers and tea in my room," Marie offered. "My roommate is sick and I went to the store earlier."

Briar smiled up at Marie. "Thanks for the offer, but I'm fine, really. Not the first time I managed to knock myself out."

Marie returned the smile. "Sounds kind of dangerous. How do your powers work?"

"Um, well, it's sort of like there's power inside of me? And I can make it work with plants? I don't think I've ever tried to explain it with words, sorry."

"Oh, that's okay," Marie insisted. "I sometimes ask too many questions."

"It's hard to explain especially since even back home my magic doesn't obey any normal rules. And questions are how you learn."

Marie smiled. "Magic is so new to me, I still look for reasonable explanations," she said. "I guess I have to learn to accept that some things just are."
