4th Floor Common Room, afternoon into evening

The last time Isabel cooked dinner on this scale it was because she didn't want to think about everything that had been going wrong. This time? She's happy. And while it's not goulash, hopefully the gods of good times would appreciate a huge meal of paella and assorted tapas food shared with friends.

The CD was glowing on the counter as she stirred and chopped and Isabel could be found singing quietly and occasionally dancing along with the music.

Ever since this old world began
A woman found out if she shook it she could shake up a man
And so I'm gonna shake and shimmy the best that I can today
'Cause you can't stop the motion of the ocean or the sun in the sky
You can wonder if you wanna but I never ask why
And if you try to hold me down I'm gonna spit in your eye and say
You can stop the beat

[Open to all. Come eat!]

Jack kept slicing the tops off the tomatoes while he considered what she'd said. "I'm not at all surprised you're related to royalty, you're beautiful, gracious," he said slowly. "But what does that mean - will he be king if you go back?" He stopped slicing and looked up at her. "Are you going back?"

Jack nodded as she spoke, looking down at the tomatoes. "I'm glad there's not going to be a wedding," he said quietly. "And I'm very glad you're alive. And that you're not alone. I'm not so thrilled about the destiny thing." He looked up and gave her a quick smile. "I'd miss you if you were gone. Now, pass me a bowl and I'll gut these."

"Thank you," he said, accepting the bowl and picking up a tomato to slide the tip of the knife inside and scoop out the pulp. "And good. I can't imagine the planet without you. But you wouldn't be Isabel if you didn't feel that way." Grinning down at the now empty tomato, he glanced sideways at her. "You sure you don't want to throw Greg aside and run away with me?"

Jack's hands were full, but he rubbed his cheek against hers as she hugged him. "Ah, I'm crushed. But I guess as long as you love me, I'll find the strength to carry on." He was - barely - managing to keep a straight face, but his eyes were sparkling with mirth. "Can I lurk in your presence and worship you from afar?"

Jack ducked and laughed, reaching for another tomato. "Worshipping from afar, and sighing sadly whenever you're in earshot. Got it." Deftly hollowing it, he grabbed another. "And speaking of Greg, I was listening to the radio last night. Anything you want to tell me?"

"Hey, it was dark and cold and I was only a little fox. All I wanted to do was sleep with you!" Smirking, he added, "And you were helpless to resist, I seem to recall." Jack now had a counter full of empty tomatoes, and he rached for the stuffing. "I believe you," he said soothingly. "I'm sure there was no nakedness of any kind."

"You were." Jack looked over at her, smiling warmly. "I might not get the urge for hearts and flowers, but I'm glad you've found someone who makes you happy," he said. "Is this a celebration, then?"

"It doesn't sound superstitious or stupid," Jack said firmly, stuffing more tomatoes and arranging them on a plate. "In a place that's got wizards, aliens, witches, vampire puppies, clones, time travellers and mummies, a god of good times just sounds like the next logical step." He laughed, and added, "I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up to claim his sacrifice in person."

"Even I'm not going to argue with a god. Probably." Jack stuffed the last of the tomatoes thoughtfully. "I bet the god of good times would be very, very cute."

[identity profile] anextimeagent.livejournal.com 2006-06-20 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
"No way. That's the god of hangovers - the god of good times is tall, bronzed, and mostly naked." Jack stared off into space. "And very adventurous." Shaking his head, he grinned at her. "Suddenly I really hope he shows up."

"Oh yeah, I think he would definitely qualify." Jack looked up as Cedric walked in (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhighdorms/663855.html?thread=42040367#t42040367). "Speaking of which, will you forgive me if I leave you? The tomatoes are done, and you look like you've got everything else well in hand."

"My pleasure, Izzy. Time spent with you is always the highlight of any day." He kissed her on the cheek. "Actually, would you object if I were to steal some of this food?"
