Third Floor Common Room, Lunchtime

After a ~~handwavey~~ walk into town for supplies, Dawn set out a bunch of sandwich fixings, pretzels, chips of various descriptions, cookies, fruit, lemonade, iced tea, and soda.

A small handwritten sign told people to help themselves, so she didn't have to keep repeating herself.

As for Dawn, she sat down with a book to enjoy her hummus with cheese, sprouts, carrots and sweet pickles. Occasionally she sipped from her lemonade.

"Molly, hi!"

Molly turned, sandwich in hand. "Dawn, hi! Did you do all this?"

"Yeah," she nodded, eating a grape, "Figured it was my turn, plus I didn't have to cook. What's up?"

"That's nice of you," Molly said with a grin. She added some chips and fruit to her plate, grabbed a soda and went to sit down.

"Not a lot going on," she said. "It's just that I've been reminded several times this week that I've been... not anti-social exactly, but I've missed a lot of interesting stuff lately. So, this is me being more social." She smiled and ate a few of her chips.

"Yay, social!" Dawn thought about that. "And you were all kinds of social on Sunday. And I saw you in Archery yesterday..."

"Yeah, well, my reason for being less social was in DC on Sunday," she said with a smirk and a blush. "And I was concentrating so much on archery yesterday that I didn't talk to anyone. ~~Meaning, the player forgot to do anything after signing in. Oops.~~" She shrugged. "I got to see Greg turn into a hedgehog yesterday though. That was fun."

"Isn't he cute?" Dawn bounced a little, not worried about him turning back. "I was concentrating too, not that it helped my archery. And did Cam have fun in DC?"

"I got to take him to Isabel. His wee feeties are so cute!" There was a definite 'eeeeee!' quality to her tone of voice.

"Cam did have fun in DC. He got to go to the Air & Space museum. I'm actually surprised he went anywhere else."

"I like the little quills on his head," Dawn giggled, "like he slept on it wrong."

"He's into flying, huh?" She shrugged, "not really my thing, but I can see that other people might like it."

Molly giggled too. "If I hadn't known it was Greg, but had to guess it was a student, he would have been my first guess."

She nodded. "Cam wants to be a pilot. Like, fighter planes, not airliners."

"Wow. That's kind of...wow." Dawn didn't know what to say to that, really, especially given the distrust of the Army, after the Initiative went blooey. "Does that scare you?"

Molly had never really thought about the danger of it before. "No. Why should it?" she asked.

"Um...don't fighter pilots have to be fighting...something?" Dawn asked, wondering if she'd misunderstood something essential.

"He's not a pilot yet though," Molly pointed out. "Why worry about something that hasn't happened yet?"

"That's a good point," Dawn nodded, even though she'd be a little worried anyway.

"It'll be years before he even gets into a fighter jet and who knows what will happen between now and then," Molly said. I might not even be in this dimension anymore. But she couldn't actually bring herself to say that part.

"True. And extra pointy. Okay, I'll stop worrying." She smiled at Molly. "How do you do that? Just let stuff go and not get all melodramaticy about it?"

Molly shrugged. "I don't know. I guess it's because I've seen enough stuff that I know it's pointless to worry about what might happen. If I spend all my time worrying about possibilities, I won't be ready for the stuff I haven't thought of," she said.

"I also know from first hand experience that the future is changeable. So, even if you know something is going to happen, there is always a chance, no matter how small, that it won't."

Dawn nodded. "Yeah, that's why I don't tell Xander, Willow, and Buffy what's coming. Because maybe for them it won't."

"Exactly," Molly said. "So, it makes no sense to worry about it." She grinned. "Also, worrying too much just leads to stress and I'm too lazy for stress."

There was giggling. "You're too lazy for stress? How does that work?"

"Stress takes effort! I'd rather read a comic book or take a nap."

"Really? What comic books?" Dawn knew a little bit about them, but most of the old ones, since she'd learned about them during her mad crush on Xander phase.

"Oh, a lot of them!" Molly said enthusiastically. "All of the ones here are different than the ones I read at home, so I've been catching up since I got here." She went on to babble about her favorite for a bit.
