The Gym, Thursday night

Peter walked down to the gym and was surprised to see it empty. "There's a first time for everything. Okay, what to do, what to do..."

He needed something more active than stretching and the untaken punching bag was looking very appealing. He glanced down at his cast and made a decision. "Okay, one handed kickboxing against the nefarious Count Punching Bag it is." Peter started hitting the bag quietly...

... for about two minutes. Then he launched into a series of taunts about the punching bag's mother. He really couldn't shut up while fighting.

Anakin walked into the gym, ready to get rid of some of his pre-Coruscant not-jitters.

And stared.

"Is the bag talking back really quietly?" he asked.

"It would be if it could talk," Peter said kicking the bag where its stomach would be if it had a stomach. "I talk when I fight. A lot. Ask Aeryn, it kind of amazes her."

"Just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed a memo regarding inanimate objects starting to chat or something," Anakin replied with a smile.

He walked over to the equipment locker and took out what looked like a broom handle. "Not exactly a lightsaber," he said, "but it'll work for now."

"Actually, it looks like you did miss the memo about the talking broom," Peter said. "Poor Jimmy."

"Hope I not holding a relative," Anakin said. "I hear that broom vengeance can be brutal."

Rory came in, oblivious as usual to anyone else there, and sat down to begin carefully stretching out her legs and the arches of her feet.

Peter elbowed the punching bag and looked over. "Hey, Rory. How're you tonight?"

"Hi Peter. I'm bored," she told him honestly. She paused a moment. "Were you talking to your punching bag?"

"Yes. I talk to whomever I'm fighting, even if that whom is a what," Peter said. "I'm not ashamed of that."

Anakin gave her a big smile, then went back to his fake lightsaber exercises.

Rory watched him. "Are you going to talk to your imaginary opponent?"

"Only if he starts it," Anakin replied.

Tyler barely noticed Peter was talking to the punching bag.

He was trying to run away from his problems, literally, as he climbed onto a treadmill and set it to as high a speed as he could stand.

Unfortunately, Bob followed him in and leaned against the railing. "Thought you were against gyms, Mr. Durden," he pointed out.
Tyler shut his eyes and ran faster.

"Hey, Tyler," Peter said. "Getting a good run in, I see."

Tyler nodded. "Yep. And you're ... trying to kill the punching bag with quips?"

"No, of course not," Peter said, rolling his eyes. "You would with quips, injure with kicks."

Anakin smiled at Tyler.

Then at Tyler's friend.

"Hello," he said politely.

"Hi," Tyler grunted.

Bob smiled toothily. "Ha. You see me too?"

"I do," Anakin replied evenly. "Are you bothering him?"

Rory glanced over with some concern.

"Don't hurt yourself," she called.

"Wasn't planning to," Tyler said, and turned the speed on the treadmill down slightly.

After hearing the voice mail Pippi left him (http://saltandammo.livejournal.com/308.html), Dean tracked her down and got the talisman to repel ghosts from her, then went hunting for Tyler.

It took him a while, but he finally found him in the gym, running on the treadmill as if worried something was gaining on him.

"Just like a nightmare, huh?" he said heading over to stand by the treadmill.

Bob looked affronted. "You see him too?" Tyler asked. "But it's more like a bad memory than a nightmare."

"Not a memory. Just a ghost. And I can't see it, but I have proof it's there." He pulled out the EMF reader he'd been working on making out of an old walkman; it was still pretty basic, but it did work. "With this."

As Peter was leaving the gym, he noticed something weird with his cast. If he looked at the part of the cast covering his palm, it wasn't there anymore. It was then that Peter realized that he was instinctively making a fist while hitting the bag. Combined with spider-strength, that meant he apparently crushed that bit of the cast.

He didnn't want to go get a new cast when he had less than two weeks with this one. Well, he was just going to have to be very careful for the next severak days.
