After a handwavy trip into town for ingredients, Sam took the carefully printed recipe out of her pocket and laid it on the counter. She'd memorized it by now, but she figured it wouldn't hurt to get some practice in before the workshop.

The fact that the recipe didn't involve an open flame? Well, that was just being prudent.

"So, double boiler...." She began hunting for the appropriate hardware.

"Sometimes. Some days I'm not feeling up to it and I just buy 'em." Anders shrugged. "Nothing too fancy though, just warning you. It's just the mix-in-a-box stuff."

"Ah, but Anders, it still takes talent to make cupcakes the right way, even if you have a pre-made mix," Tempe replied. "After all, you could still add too much or not enough of the liquid ingredients, you could bake them for too long, ice them too soon after they've come out of the oven..."

Tempe blushed. "Sorry, I'm rambling, I know."

Anders laughed. "Ramble away. It's okay. Lords know I've messed up on the measurements a few times as it is, and I had one batch that came out tasting like I was trying to eat a sponge."

Tempe giggled. "Oh, that can't have been good. It kind of reminds me of one of the first few times I tried to make cookies by myself. I didn't mix everything enough, and when they came out of the oven, they were as hard as a rock. Luckily, I've learned since then."

"So, have a preference on type of cookie? Or should I just bring an assortment when I visit?"

"Anything involving chocolate is good," Anders told her. "And yeah, you should've seen my first batch of cupcakes ever. I was picking eggshell bits out of my teeth for days."

Tempe grinned. "Did you know you were supposed to separate the egg from its shell first? Or was it more a case of cracking the egg and then having the entire thing shatter in the bowl?"
