Second Floor Common Room [Thursday Morning]

Bridge was bored. So he'd dragged the telekinesis ball out of his room, since he hadn't practiced in a while, and sat down crosslegged on a couch in the common room to do so.

After a few minutes, he had the ball floating in a lazy circuit around the room.

"Hey Conner!"

Conner yawned and waved. "Nadia, hey."

Nadia wouldn't recognize the logo for the Caprica bucs, so she just assumed that it was some American sports team. "How are you?"

"Okay. Bored," he said with a sleepy smile. "What's up with you?"

"I'm hopefully avoiding certain people while still managing to find a crowd also bored. We should do something interesting."

"Yeah?" Conner sprawled out across the floor on his stomach and peered up at her through one half-cracked eye. "Whaddya got in mind? Avoidy."

"I dunno yet. Maybe explore the woods or the sixth floor or something?"

"We have a sixth floor?" Conner actually seemed genuinely surprised by this. "Seriously?"

"Yeah. But as far as I know, only two students live up there. Most of the rooms are really crazy."

"Huh." Conner scratched his head. "I feel like I should be surprised by this, but I'm not."

"After awhile, things actually stop surprising you at this school."

"That's what everybody tells me, yeah. I haven't quite hit that point yet."

"Give it time. You haven't been here that long, yet. I'm still surprised occasionally, and I've been here since January. But I'm pretty sure people who've been here since last fall are almost impossible to surprise, now."

"By the weird stuff, maybe." Conner grinned. "I get the feeling the students still manage to surprise each other a lot."

"Well, there is that."

"Bring on Jello dragons, tentacle demons, teal deer, and we can handle it just fine. Find out something unexpected about the guy down the hall? That's a different story."

Nadia thought for a moment about Cally on the roof last night and blushed. "Yeah. But that's a good sign, I think, that we can still surprise each other.

Conner nodded. "And ourselves, yeah. Life'd be boring otherwise. 'course, it has its upsides and downsides, but hey."

"What doesn't, really? So, who will you be rooting for in the final? Italy or France?"

Conner and his player mentally backtracked the last couple of rounds of the tournament. "Tough call," he said. "On one hand, Italy beat the team that beat Argentina, but France beat the team that beat England. So I'm kind of torn. I think I might settle for just rooting for a good game that doesn't come down to penalty kicks in the end."

"That might be a good idea. I'm tempted to cheer for Italy, though. Just to annoy Pip."

"Is annoying Pip a hobby of yours?"

"Not officially, but it is a lot of fun."

"Well, if you cheer for Italy, I'll cheer for Italy."

"Yay! Maybe I should get some green, white, and red body paint. . . . Or do it Brazilian style and get some little Italian flags."

Because while Nadia was loyal to her team, football was football was football, and part of the glory of football was the hooliganism.
