Third Floor Common Room, Sunday Morning

Dawn made a quick ~~handwavey~~ trip into town for supplies, then set up a quesadilla bar. Conventional toppings like cheddar, swiss, monterey jack, eggs, spinach, peppers, onions, and mushrooms are there, as are less conventional toppings like peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, bananas, M&Ms, cottage cheese, apples, mandarin oranges, and pineapple.

There was also orange juice and packets of hot chocolate available (with mini-marshmallows, of course).

She began making herself a cottage cheese and mandarin orange quesadilla, humming happily. "I wonder if there's cinnamon..."

Sam shook his head and may have even taken a step back. "No, really, it's all yours. I wouldn't want to deprive you of getting to eat any of your own creation."

"Um. I'm taking Cooking, Astronomy, Advanced Computers...andIendedupinSexEdbutit'snotmyfault," he said, quickly and quietly.

Dawn stared at Sam. Oh, this was very of the not good. "How is it not your fault?" She may have squeaked that last part.

Oh great, now Dawn probably thought he was as dirty-minded as Dean. "I didn't sign up for it. I don't know if I accidentally signed up for the wrong class, or if First Aid was full..." he trailed off, looking a little worried about what she might be thinking.

Dawn was thinking that she was going to be embarrassed until the end of time. "I, um, don't know. But, um, save me a seat?" She smiled weakly at him.

"Wait. You're taking Sex Ed too?" Sam asked. That might have been worse than Dawn being upset with him, actually.

Dawn nodded, then blurted, "No one ever wants to tell me stuff, and how will I learn?" She may have sounded the tiniest bit whiny.

"Um, books?" Sam suggested helpfully. "That's how I've learned everything I know about sex. My dad won't tell me anything either."

"I'm not allowed to read those kind of books," she said sullenly. "And, um...why don't you ask Dean?"

"Dean is already practically hellbent on getting me laid. I think asking him questions would just encourage him," Sam explained. "And besides, books can't mock me for what I don't already know."

"Dean's what????" Dawn practically shouted.

Sam really did back away from Dawn this time. "Um. Nothing? Never mind. Forget I said that."

"What the hell business is it of Dean's?" It was possible that Dawn was more upset by this than was strictly warranted. "Does he think girls are just here for the sex? Is that how he thinks of Buffy? Of me?"

"I...I..." Sam stammered, desperately trying to backtrack. "Okay, it's Dean's business because he's my brother, and in his own strange way, I know he wants me to be happy. And sex makes people happy, right? So, I think he thinks I'm missing out on something good. But he doesn't feel that way about you or Buffy, not at all. I mean, if all he wanted from you was sex, don't you think he'd be pushing for it constantly?"

"Sex doesn't always make people happy," Dawn argued, thinking of, well, almost everyone she knew back home. "Sometimes it makes them miserable."

"I guess you have a point," she admitted. Huh. She frowned. "But what does it mean if he doesn't push me at all?"

"I know, but it's supposed to make you happy. If sex makes someone miserable, they're probably either doing it wrong, or doing it with the wrong person," Sam replied.

"If he's not pushing you at all? I don't know. Dean and I don't act at all similar when it comes to this sort of thing. I mean, I'm not pushing Buffy because I don't want to have sex with her. But I don't think the same is true about you where Dean is concerned," he admitted, wondering if that was going to get him yelled at again.

"That...makes sense," Dawn said, begrudgingly. Then her eyes widened. "You don't want to have sex with Buffy? Why not? I thought that was what teenage guys did."

And now she was thinking that Dean didn't want to have sex with her, either.

Sam was starting to feel like an anamoly when it came to being a teenage boy. "It's not that I don't want to have sex with Buffy at all, because yes, I am a teenage guy. This is going to sound so stupid," he said, sighing. "I like Buffy a lot. But I don't think I'm the kind of person who can have sex with someone just because I like them."

"So, what would it take for you to want to have sex with someone?" Dawn asked, because this was really starting to get interesting now.

"I don't know?" Sam said uncertainly, looking down at his food to try not to look so embarrassed. "It would have to be someone who I really cared about, and who hopefully shared the same feeling about me."

"So...how would you know?" Dawn fiddled with the edge of her tortilla. "I mean, how would you know it was the right person, and that you were ready?"

"Well, I figure once you've found the right person, that's all it takes to be ready," Sam replied, shrugging. "And I'm also following the assumption that feelings like that would be communicated, like, 'Gosh Dawn, I really care about you,' and 'Oh Sam, I care about you too.'"

Dawn blushed and went over to the refrigerator for some juice. "Would you say that? I mean, it's kind of tough to say that to someone," she asked the inside of the fridge.

"I don't see why I wouldn't. Although, it would suck to say something like that and have the other person not say anything back. So, I guess you have a point about how tough it can be."

"I can't imagine someone not saying anything back to you, Sam. I don't think you need to worry." Yes, of course she said that right to the lettuce on the shelf. "Really, Sam."

Sure, Sam had to lean over to hear her, but he could still tell what Dawn had said. "Thanks Dawn," he replied, grinning. "I don't think you'll need to worry either."
