Marie spent the majority of the day hiding in her room. She was avoiding talking about last night packing for the two week trip to the cabins.

Now that she was comfortably ensconced in Alcove B4, she decided to be brave sociable and start a campfire.

Joxer did exactly that. "How're you doing? It sure seems a lovely night, doesn't it?"

"I've had better weekends," Marie admitted. "But it is a beautiful night."

"Yeah, I know what you mean," Joxer said. "I got my butt kicked at ball volley yesterday, and then I got locked out of my room for awhile, without a shirt and covered in sand."

"How'd you get locked out of your room?" Marie asked.

"I left my keys in my other shorts," Joxer said. "And I guess my roommate locked it when she was out for a bit. Not that I see her all that often."

"Well that sucks," Marie said. "My roommate is my best friend here."

"You're roommates with Willow, aren't you?" Joxer asked.

"Yeah," Marie smiled. "Who's your roommate?"

Joxer gulped. "Max Goo-vera," he said. "She's pretty, but she's pretty rough, too. Living with a girl is not the trip to the Elysian fields you'd expect it to be."

"I don't think I've met her," Marie said. "And I'm sure it's not easy living with a girl. I don't think I could have handled having a boy for a roommate."

"You know how hard it is to get a girl to go on a date with you when you have to say you live with one?" Joxer said. "They take a little bit of offense at having to share closet space."

Marie rolled her eyes. "Yeah, well, just because a boy is sharing a room with another boy doesn't mean things are innocent," she scoffed.

Joxer raised an eyebrow. "You don't know my brother Jace, do you?"

"Does he go to school here?" Marie asked.

Joxer suddenly realized she couldn't, so tried to cover up his slip up.

"Does who go to school here?"

"Your brother," Marie said. "You just asked me if I knew him."

"What brother? Jett? No, Jett doesn't go to school here," Joxer said quickly.

"Oh, then why did you ask me if I knew him?" Marie asked, not realizing he'd used two different names.

Joxer realized his charade wasn't working. Or, at least, he was convinced it wasn't.

"I... I don't talk about my brother Jace," he said. "Because Jace likes other boys, and Jett and I agreed to never acknowledge his existence in public."

"There seems to be a lot of that going around lately," Marie said sympathetically.

"You having trouble finding somebody special?" Joxer asked, looking sympathetic.

Marie shrugged. "I went on a date last night and it didn't go so well."

Joxer nodded. "You know what makes everything better?" He pulled a flask out of his armor. "A nice drink."

"I don't drink," Marie said. "Willow and I were supposed to eat ice cream, but we didn't have time."

Joxer unscrewed the cap of his flask. "You can drink this, cause it's only water," he said, offering it to Marie. "It's the sentiment of sharing it with a friend that makes it special."
