Main campfire, Saturday morning

Rizzo, sitting on top of one of the picnic tables by the unlit fire, leaned back and folded her legs in the tight black dress she had found in her closet this morning. Loose t-shirts and those jeans? So not her style. Why she even had them, she didn't know. She had woken up with the worst craving for a cigarette, a need she was now satisfying with a long drag and relieved exhale. She held the cigarette loosely in one hand, leaning back on the other as she surveyed the goings-on around her with an amused little smile, sunglasses perched on top of her head at the moment.

Hermione stares at her. "Because it's a waste of money and I don't want one?"

"There's a ton you can do at home," Frenchy offered. "With a lil' spray an' some tinting...." She tilted her head to study her critically, dragging on her cigarette.

"I don't want anything done," Hermione says. "Since when do you smoke?"

"Since always. My ciggies were gone this morning, though," she said sadly. "My mom prob'ly tossed 'em again."

Hermione's back to staring. "'Ciggies?'"

Frenchy nodded, and generously pulled the spare cigarette out from her cleavage. "Rizz's got the pack, but you can have my spare!"

"Oh, no. Thank you, no," Hermione says, and even makes that hands-up gesture that makes her unable to hold anything.

"Your loss," Frenchy shrugged. "Can I do your hair sometime, maybe? I'm gonna tint mine this afternoon."

"What is everyone's obsession with my hair?" asks Hermione, who clearly just doesn't care.

"You've got all kinds of potential," Frenchy said.

"Yes, I know, but that has nothing to do with how I look!"

"Sure it does!"

[smartestone]

"No, it doesn't!"

Frenchy nodded. "Beauty might be only skin-deep, but it's what eeeeeeeeeeverybody sees."

Hermione sighs. "It only matters if you don't have anything to back it up."

"Don'tcha care about how you present yourself?" she asked earnestly. "You should take pride in your appearance!"

"I present myself just fine. If that's all anyone's concerned about, then I don't need to be talking to them," Hermione points out.

"No one said it was all anyone would be interested in. But no one's gonna see your brains before they talk to you," Frenchy argued.

"But I don't care," she argues back.

Frenchy just boggled. "Why not?"

"There are much more important things than appearances, and if the people who put all their time into looking good took a single ounce of that and put it into something actually worth the time, maybe they could actually achieve something worthwhile," she says.

Not that she's ever gone off on Parvati and Lavender about this, nope.

"I'm achievin' something worthwhile right now," Frenchy pointed out. "This is what I wanna do, and to me it's totally worth it."

"Since always! I'm gonna drop outta high school to go to beauty school an' everything."

Hermione stares at her.

The staring is followed by a high-pitched "WHAT???"
