5th floor Common Room - Monday Monday morning.

It's Monday morning.

Everybody is back in the dorms.

You realize...

This calls for pancakes.

Lots, and lots, of pancakes.

Maybe a few eggs and a rasher of bacon five yards long. (Okay... Maybe no that much bacon.

There's definitely coffee.

Anders chuckled. "The time difference stuff is messing with my head, that's all. My body has no idea if it's gotten enough rest. And I'm bruised and sore and plan to take it easy today."

Peter grinned. "That makes sense then. Nice when words mean what they say. How long is the trip from your home." He cocked his head at Anders. "You don't look like you were fighting. Why the bruises?"

"You know, I'm not sure?" Anders shook his head. "It was pretty long. Lots of space between here and Caprica, and all."

He rolled his shoulders and winced a little at the stiffness. "Pyramid scrimmage. Got my butt kicked from one end of the court to the other," he admitted. "Which is what I was home for, actually. League wanted to check up on me."

"How'd you do?" Peter asked. "If it's not rude to ask."

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Pretty lousy, actually," said Anders, without a whole lot of reluctance in admitting it. In fact, he was grinning in a self-deprecating way. "I've gone off my game a little bit."

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Which is probably unsurprising given that you only have complete beginners like me to play against," Peter said. "What'd the League say?"

"That mentally I was as ready as I was ever gonna be." Anders shook his head. "Which I wasn't expecting. But on the other hand, I need to cut down on the cupcakes and train a little harder. They offered me a chance to stay at home and play a little more intensively. I turned it down."

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why?" Peter asked, surprised. "Isn't that what you want to do?"

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, yeah. I figured people'd think I was crazy to say I turned it down." Anders shoved his hands into his pockets and exhaled slowly. "They were just way too eager to have me. To the point where I felt like they were pushing me a little too hard, more than I thought I could handle. What the frak would I deserve an early college scholarship for, other than to play Pyramid? I'd die of classes. I play because I love the game -- I don't want to end up hating it because I got rushed through the system too soon. I'm still a kid; I want to enjoy being a kid while I can, you know?"

Having ruled a country since he was twelve, Peter didn't particularly understand, but he could tell Anders felt like his decision was mostly correct. "I suppose, yes. If you're able to finish up here and then maybe go to college and play Pyramid without the additional pressure of being young, that seems to make sense." He spread his hands our palms up. "But then, I come from a culture where people are considered adults younger, so I may not understand."

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wouldn't hold that against you," Anders assured him with a grin. "The timing just didn't feel right for me yet. I thought it'd be a tougher choice but somehow when the question came up I was more sure about the answer than I've been about anything in a while."

[identity profile] once-a-king.livejournal.com 2006-07-24 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then it sounds like you made the right decision," Peter said with a nod. "I can't say I don't know the feeling. When I was at home a few weeks ago, I very much wanted to come back here and be a kid again."

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2006-07-25 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Anders nodded thoughtfully. "It's just . . . most people don't really get a chance to be a kid again." Obviously, since this was Fandom, that statement needed to be qualified. "So I don't want to waste mine."
