Third Floor Common Room, Monday Evening

Dawn was stretched out on one of the couches and flipping through channels.

"Oooh, sharks."

After a few minutes, she was feeling a bit hungry, so she got up to make herself a sandwich. Any resemblance between the song she was humming and the Teeth theme song was purely coincidental.

"Oh really? How's he doing?" She smiled at Lana's obvious happiness. "Obviously well if that smile is anything to go by."

"They are. That's Dopamine, Norepinephrine, and Phenethylamine," Isabel said pointing to each one in turn. "This is my answer to sky writing."

"He's great," Lana said. "He's back... um... on world, I guess, for another couple of weeks - mostly doing debriefings or classified stuff, but he wants to take me to San Diego for my birthday."

She looked curiously at the formulas. "Huh... Okay... your answer to skywriting? Inquiring minds want to know!"

"On world?" Isabel asked with a raised eyebrow. "Have you ever been there? We've gone for vacation a few times. The beach is beautiful and there's so much to do."

"Greg had Anakin skywrite a message to me last week." She blushed, "It was a sweet message. This was my way of saying it was mutual."

Whoops. Lana blushed a little. "Kind of our little joke. He gets so busy that I tell him it's like he's on another planet. So when he gets some free time..." She shrugged and smiled. "No, I really had never even been out of Kansas till I got here. I can't wait to see it, though. Shep's quite the surfer."

"Aw... that's so sweet," Lana said. "I'm so glad things are working out well for you!"

"Tell him I said he needs to be less busy more often," Isabel said firmly. "Make him take you to the zoo but wear good walking shoes. There's lots of hills."

"I am to. It's been really nice. I can't believe it's been two months already."

Lana laughed. "I'm sure he and I both wish it was that easy," she said. "But yes, the zoo. I'll write that down. And good walking shoes. Check. I really want to make our time together count since it might be a year or more before he's able to get away again."

Lana sighed happily. "Two months. Wow. I'm glad you found someone who's so good to you."

"A year?" she asked, eyes wide. "That's horrible. He has to have a pretty important job then."

"Thanks. It's definitely made the summer a lot more fun."

"It is," Lana said. "On both counts. And he's so far away. Which is why we're not dating-dating. Just enjoying what we have when we can be together. It's possible I might not see him for years, so he doesn't want me tied down and waiting alone."

"Which makes sense," she admitted. "And it's easier to let him go and enjoy the moments we have together this way, knowing that he still cares about me and is there even if we can't be together. if that makes any sense."

"Carpe diem," Isabel said. "I understand that. And I'm glad they you were able to get this time together. I hope you can get more sooner then in a few years though." She smiled, trying not to think about the end of the summer session and not knowing if Greg was staying.

"So what workshops are you taking?"

"Me too," Lana said fervently. "Oh, I so hope it won't be that long. Even if one or the other of us gets involved with someone else... Regardless of everything else, he's my best friend. And emails just arent the same."

"I'm taking First Aid, Stealth and Deception, and Sex Ed," Lana said with only a bit of a blush. "All really interesting. How about you?"

"Yeah, I don't think emails will be quite the same," Isabel said sadly. "I've seen you in first aid. How is Sex Ed? Jack took it last semester. He was always amused by it. But then again, he's Jack."

"In addition to First Aid, I have Cooking and Baking, Constant Vigilance and Scoobying. They're all pretty cool. Granted I missed a week when I went back to Roswell for a visit."

"Actually," Lana said. "I've never met Jack. But Sex Ed is... interesting. Shep just about killed himself laughing when he heard I was taking it. Wanted to know if I'd ruptured anything with all my blushing yet." She grinned. "And I haven't, though it's been a close thing."

"I took Scoobying last time, but I missed two classes. One I was in the clinic unconscious for and the other I ran out of because... well... it was the ghost thing." Lana shuddered. "I don't ever want to have that happen agaiN!"

"Jack is something else," Isabel said fondly. "I hear there's a lot of blushing going on. That's why I passed."

"The ghost thing sounded like it was rough. I saw Bel when he was being haunted. I felt so bad for him."

"He sounds like someone I'd like to meet," Lana said with a smile. "And yes, lots of blushing. But Phoebe talked me into it. And it is interesting.

Her face was sober. "It was... horrible," she said softly. "One of theworst experiences of my life."

"Just be prepared to be flirted with. A lot. He does it as easily as breathing," she said, rolling her eyes.

"I'm sorry," Isabel said quietly, not sure if she should pry.

"Might be nice," Lana said with a smile. "Everyone's so paired off that I don't know when I was last flirted with!"

She bit her lip. "He told me everyone I loved would die or leave me. And he tried to get me to come with him to the other side."

"I felt like that last spring. And look at me now," Isabel smiled. "But if you want to flirt? Definitely talk to Jack. It's fun."

"That's horrible. But knowing what we know now, it makes sense. Still, I'm sorry you had to go through that."

Lana laughed. "I'll have to arrange to run into him sometime then," she said with a smile.

Lana nodded. "But you know, I decided that even if he was right about everything he said I'd rather stay here and deal with it than run away."

"Good," Isabel said. "This place is worth sticking around for. That means you'll be sticking around for the Fall?"

"I plan to," Lana said with a smile.

"Unless I can convince Shep to run away with me," she joked. "But seriously, I like it here and there really isn't anything left for me at home. And after the 13th I'm legally on my own. Lex is only my guardian till my 18th birthday."

"It is? Happy birthday early then," she smiled. "But I'll make sure to say it to you then as well. ~~Except plot for vacation AFKness will prevent that.~~"

"Thanks," Lana said with a smile. "~~And she and the Mun will be in San Diego that weekend~~ We'll have cake or something."

"Sounds like a plan."
