Third Floor Common Room - Tuesday Evening

Kawalsky had pizza. Pizza was good. He had way too much pizza for one person. He also knew that going to the second floor common room would mean the pizza would be gone in an instant. So he was making people work for it. If people wanted pizza, they'd have to come to the third floor common room.

Honey, I Laminated the Children was on TV. Kawalsky loved this movie.

"Bridge, hey!" Z said cheerfully. "There's pizza!" Then, in a more serious tone, she added, "And SPD sent me stuff."

"Pizza, yay!" Bridge says, because... teenage boy. Yay food. "What kind of stuff?"

"A computer and a synthetron. And a manual I can't even begin to read." Z shrugged. "Someone screwed up, I think."

"Complicated? Or just not in English?" Bridge guesses.

"Or Spanish."

"Sirian?" Bridge guesses, because for some reason a lot of technical manuals and official documents end up written in that. Despite the fact that the planet was wiped out years ago.

"Does Sirian look like Japanese on acid?" Z asked. Because honestly, that was the only way she could think of to describe the manual.

"That's... actually a pretty accurate description." Bridge says.

"Then it's in Sirian. Darn it. I don't suppose there's a Sirian-to-English dictionary in the library, either."

Bridge raises a hand.

"We're not in class, Bridge," Z said gently.

"Sorry, habit." Bridge says, a little sheepishly. "Um. Anyway. I can read it?"

She perked up. "Really? You read Sirian? That would be awesome--but no," Z realized, her enthusiasm waning a little. "Then you'd still have to tell me everything it said."

"Yeah?" Bridge says. "Why would that be a problem?"

"It seems like it would be a pain in the neck."

"It's better than just guessing?" Bridge says. "Or, what if you learned how to read it?"

"That would make the most sense, if there's going to be other stuff written in it," Z mused.

"They use it a lot at SPD, yeah." Bridge nods. "Since the Sirians sort of started the whole thing and all..."

"But they're all gone now," Z said softly. "Except Cruger."

"Yeah," Bridge nods. "And now he's doing his best to make sure that doesn't happen to us- to Earth."

"Including lying to us?"

"That wasn't just him, though," Bridge points out. "That was our parents, too."

"I didn't have parents," Z said softly.
