Basement pool, Thursday evening

Walter led Alphonse down to the basement, his arms laden with some things you likely wouldn't expect in this weather, including blankets, ice skates, his electric kettle, and what appear to be the makings for hot cocoa with marshmallows.

He dropped most of those things off to the side of the pool and looked expectantly at his roommate.

"Come on. I want to see you turn all of that to ice."

[ooc: Pool party! The pool has been frozen solid, the room should be not just cool, but downright chilly. Enjoy the relief from the heat with a few goosebumps. Open to all. Anyone who wants their character to have an excuse to be down here can handwave a phone call from Walter. It's possible he randomly grabbed the school directory and dialed.]

Seras tapped her index finger against her lips.

"For once, I've got no argument. We must celebrate this momentous occasion."

"You'll have to write it down in your diary when you finally get one," Walter said, grinning slyly at her.

Seras took a deep breath and put on the air of an inspired young authoress.

She held her hand out flat, palm facing her, and pretended to write on it, with a flourish of her wrist.

"Dearest Log...You shall never, if given an eternity of guesses, divine what happened to me today..."

Earnest? Seras made Pollyanna sound like Lady MacBeth.

Walter laughed and spun in a circle on the ice before going to the edge and sitting down to remove his skates. "That's exactly what you would write. I know it."

Seras raised an eyebrow.

"Just wait until I get the bugger in code."

"I thought that was your code," Walter said, setting his skates aside. "Just concealing your meaning behind hearts and flowers."

Seras gasped and looked stricken.

"You cracked my code!"

"I've been studying," Walter told her. "I even got another book on it from the library today."

Goodness, that's as long as Seras had been in Fandom. And, not too long after she'd arrived, Walter and Pippi had...And Walter mentioned that someone had hurt...

"You must be getting quite good at it by now."

Walter shrugged. "It's complicated. I'm just starting with the easiest techniques and working my way into things that are more difficult to crack. This book I checked out today should show me some new ideas."
